Just wondering. I first listened back in June, I think it was, when Adam doing his "pie is better than cake" rant.

of course, at that time i had no idea who the hosts were or what the show was :)

Wow.

Years ago...I imagine I was about 12. Some jackass called in complaining that he wore tighty-whitey underwear and tight jeans, and he had a big package, and girls kept staring at it. Drew quietly expressed his skepticism at the call. Adam suggested that he start wearing looser pants and/or underwear, and the guy objected. Adam's response: "WELL THEN WHY ARE YOU CALLING US?! IF YOU LIKE IT, SHUT THE EFF UP!"

I was hooked.

And yeah, I knew who they were, because - true story - my mom listened to the show and talked about it constantly, with frequent disclaimers: "It's really disgusting and gross! But Adam is sooooo funny!"

The first time I ever listened was in late 2003, when Adam was telling of how one year he went to a book-signing, and met an 18-year-old girl, who asked him If he was as big of an ass in real life as he was on the radio, to which he yelled "beat it!"

best show I can remember.

I started watching the MTV show back in 1996 -- can't really remember the first show I saw. I started listening to the radio show a few years later. One of the first shows I remember hearing was the Australian guy calling with the penis question -- the infamous, "My call's regardin' my peckah." drop.

Edited to add: Now it drives me crazy when I think back to shows where I heard the original call which eventually became a drop, only I wasn't recording the show back then.

I don't know why I can remember specifically but it was George Lopez on 4/8/02. I looked it up on the calendar and that was the only date he has been on. I had watched the Man Show before so I recognized Adam and thought Loveline was the greatest show ever. It still is.

Sometime in mid-95 or early 96. They were interviewing Garbage. Back then Adam was going nuts with his apptitude tests and seriously considering the possibily that Dr. Drew was gay because he had a squeegee in his shower. I guess this was prior to him discovering just how truly a passionate, passionate man Drew is.

It had to be well before 1999 as I was already quoting Adam back then and when Adam talked about being in power, I remember someone reminding him he could officially run for office on his 35th birthday. I had already been listening to the show for at year a year at that point, and probably more.

So, sometime in 1997 or 1998.

One of the earliest shows I can remember was when the Sneaker Pimps were on, circa '96 or '97. These guys were drunk and one of them started dispensing his own crappy medical advice and that really pissed off Drew. IIRC, that one guy then walked off the show in a huff.

I also remember an old show around this same time where Adam was talking about his grandfather who had just died.

I remember driving in the car late with friends and stopping on the station playing Loveline.

This girl called in talking about how she was having sex with her brother, because her cousin beat her up and she had to run to somebody so the brother was there for her. Carolla eventually lost all hope in the girl and said something to the effectg of "I hate to have to do this, but sometimes the innocent must die. We have to carpet bomb your entire area. You know..to make sure that nothing is left of you to survive and reproduce. I have my finger on the button now."

I was hooked.

I think it was the spring of 2003, the Foo Figheters were on. Either on that show or one close to it a guy called in with a "tip" for all guys that masterbate. He said that he kept his "jizz" (his word, not mine) in a slurpee cup. Adam asked if it got all crusty and brown, and the caller said yes. I was disgusted and mesmerized, been listening ever since.

Mine was in 2002... I think it was in the fall, I've been trying to figure out the date (I've asked for help around here a couple of times, but NO ONE REPLIED!) Anyways, I was randomly scrolling through stations (Well, not quite randomly, I was looking to see if Tom Leykis was on, this was before I discovered what a retard he was, although I never liked him all that much, okay enough backstory) and I suddenly heard this chick caller talking about how a Mexican guy broke into her room late at night and raped her in her sleep (and yes, of course, the show turned out to be Loveline). The guest, who I believe was male, was saying something about "sleep-F-ing", and Adam was making jokes about how that must be experienced as falling on a pipe, or in his case chapstick, and how he wore panties when he slept, and Drew was talking about psychosomatic pain and trauma histories and such. And I was absolutely hooked...

Well, anyway, I just heard a small part of that one show, and then I kinda forgout about it. But a few weeks later I heard 107.7 The End playing commercials about how Loveline was moving there, and I was like "Hey, I know that show!" So I listened on the very first night they aired it on that station, and I've been listening ever since.

I'm going to have to go with..no. I miss shows all the time..after I listened for a couple months I think the station I was on dropped the show and I stopped listening for years, a while after that another station picked it up and I would periodically listen if there was a guest I liked..I just started listening every day last summer because I was bored, and now I've kept up with it since radio sucks and I drive an hour and a half every day in a car with no CD player.

Hey Kevin,

Probably one or two. Finding them from the VCR could take years--I have a ton of tapes that are unlabeled and now that I'm married they're all mixed in with my wife's tapes. I did the VCR through the tuner thing from '95-98. I'll poke around in my cassette tapes which is bound to have some stuff in there. They would be random and incomplete--I used to tape the show and take it into whatever crappy temp job I was working and then tape over it again the next night. This is circa 1998-2000. Finding anything before then would be a miracle.

I'll take a look though. I owe the community for all of the shows I've leached.

bguirk

Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 1:03 AM

Kevin:

I just went through the most obvious box of cassette tapes and found two shows. My guess is they're from 1999, but they could be from 2000. The Loveline Database isn't loading for me right now so I can't check. The guests are DAG (seems to be his 2nd appearance) and Ricky Paul Gordon from the Young and the Restless. Adam is talking about having two TV shows and I think Loveline and The Man Show were on together in 1999 and 2000. Other shows I probably have on cassette somewhere would be an old Kevin Smith episode in 1999 where he's promoting Dogma. I probably have Fishbone somewhere from when they appeared on DrDrew.com that same day. That feels like 2000 to me though.

What era are you looking for? I looked at your hub and you seem to have from 2002 on fairly complete. I have some 2001 stuff-- the 9/11 show, Kathy Griffin, and Kevin Smith (again). These are either from Napster or on minidisc.

Thanks for looking, sounds like you have a few interesting things. We have recordings from a good portion of 2000, but not all of it, and what we do have is low quality; Also, 2001 is covered pretty well, but again some are lower quality shows. Anything pre-2000 would be awesome, anything from 2000-2002 could possibly be useful, and basically, anything from 2002 forward is covered (I started recording in July 2002, and we have recently obtained shows from LTJ from January-July). For some people the low quality shows from post-2000 are sufficient, but I am always on the search for better stuff.

The first show I listened to was on 93.7 THE EDGE in Minneapolis. It was summer of 1996 and Dishwalla was the guests. Whatever happened to them? I remember Adam saying that he had only been on there for about 6 months. Does anyone have a copy of that show?

YoYoMa02: I remember that show. I was pissed off at Dishwala because they were going around doing a cover of Tainted Love that sounded exactly note for note like Social Distortion's cover of the song yet they were getting all of the attention. Don't have a copy of that show.

KevinU: After consulting the LLDB it's looking like those tapes I have are from 2000. DAG's 2nd appearnce probably occured in 2000 and there is a guest named Robbie Gordon which is probably Rickie Paul Gordon that year. It's strange--I had a good job at those times so it seems unlikely that I would be taping shows, but maybe I had a flight or something. Do you have shows for 2/15/2000 and 4/27/2000? I also have a crappy mp3 of Billy Dee Williams from that year.

Somewhere in a box I probably have the very first lightning round which was Ace Rockola before he did traffic, weather, and time updates. He was just mean to the callers. I'm a douche-nozzle if I didn't save that.

Kevin U.

bguirk

+

Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 12:57 PM

I'm not so sure what I have. If I do have the 2/15 show I do have it form the start. My only transfer method at the moment would be to run the cassette tape from my old walkman through my soundcard. If you have better equipment and would like the tapes I can send them. I'll take a more detailed listen to the shows after work tonight after work and try to give you some meaningful clues so I can figure out what is there.

From last night's listen:

The DAG show has Adam saying that now that he has two TV shows so DAG will now call him so they can get together and work out.

The Young and the Restless dude show has Adam coming in late from doing a Man Show bit with Jimmy at a Korn show and driving like a maniac to make it to the show.

Listened to some of the non-DAG show. One of the commercials is for a band playing "This Friday, March 3." March 3 was a Friday in 2000 so it's definitely from 2/27/2000-3/01/2000 since 3/2 of that year the guest was filter. I'm listening as I type waiting for Adam to announce guests for the week, but it hasn't happened. Oh wait, Adam just said Filter will be in tomorrow so it's from 3/1/2000.
