Japanese immigrants in the US are stereotyped as relatively intelligent, highly motivated people. Conversely, Japanese immigrants in China are perceived in a different light, so they do not perform as well as Japanese immigrants in the US in certain areas. Social priming is also a reason for this. It has been demonstrated in experiments that in a group of test takers, if the proctor states before the examination a fact like "women perform poorly in this sort of examination," women tend to perform more poorly than a control group where this sort of social stereotype was not stated (i.e. there was no priming). —ankiedada |
