Saturday, January 8, 2005 at 12:20 AM A couple classics that get overlooked sometimes... Peter Sellers Pink Panther Series (Strikes Back is best) Platoon (Best war film next to Apocalypse Now) Annie Hall (if you like Seinfeld or curb, it’s a must see) Falling Down (which clodhopper mentioned, good time-piece) Blood Simple (Great combination of video and audio, Coen’s first movie) On the Waterfront (Best young Brando) Psycho (best Hitchcock in my opinion) A few I wouldn’t recommend watching although they seem to get props:
Easy Rider (just plain awful, Nicholson is the only redeeming quality) Donnie Darko (decent attempt but overdone and over acclaimed) A Street Car Named Desire (too censored, read Tennessee Williams’ play or watch On the Waterfront for a better early Brando) Tootsie (not funny) If I were you I’d get netflix instead of buying DVD's 1 by 1. The only two DVDs I own are Dr. Strangelove and MASH. I use netflix and rotating free month subscriptions to Walmart DVD rentals. I copy the ones I enjoy to DivX and return the rest. I go through 2-3 movies a day. —Mr. Mason Jar |
