Ah, so that's what that was.

I actually did kinda know what they were talking about... there's a Simpsons computer game (Virtual Springfield), where, if you go into the control room of Krustylu Studios, some of the screens will show a Krusty-like indian guy with color patterns and such.

Yeah, a lot of you guys are too young to have witnessed it, but it really was depressing as fuck in the old days -- Adam wasn't joking about that -- It was almost as if TV stations wanted you to be unhappy when they went off the air -- I forget which of the four stations it was (and yes, just think for a second about only having four stations), but they used to play Cat Stevens "Wild World" with slow motion footage of the moon landing and then random shots of the American flag before they cut to the Test Pattern for the rest of the night. I can not begin to convey how incredibly depressing that used to be.

Wild World huh? Where I grew up it was Louis Armstrong singing 'Wonderful World'.

Remember "[whatever the stations call sign] now concludes it's broadcasting day.'?

And then the whole world went to sleep...

I'm sure it was depressing before cable and 1,000,000,000 channels came around to people who are TV-holics, or those who try to live life vicariously through shows on TV...
I did not mind it one bit. I was too busy as a kid playing out with friends, hiking, camping and generally enjoying the outdoors. It was those times too was when I learned to love to read. (I know Adam radio schtick is to pretend he doesn't read...)

As Adam mentioned right before the test pattern they'd have the jet fly-bys and some other scenes (farms?) while they played the national anthem. I guess I'm also showing my age as I remember waking to the test pattern and that god-forsaken 1kHz tone. Then the TBS Superstaion came along that was 24hours. Holy Smokes! That was a big thing back then.

Remember how everyone thought it was crazy for CNN to have "24-hour news"? -- I.E.: "Who the hell wants to watch the news at 3 in the morning?" Jesus, have times changed.
