Jimmy Kimmel overrated...

I've watched Kimmel from Win Ben Stein's Money to JKL. He's just not that funny to me. He's had some good moments but I think he is overrated as a comedian and/or host. He also seems unable to separate showbiz from his private life.
I seem to remember a Man Show episode where him and his very young son both flipped the bird at the camera... not a very responsible parent. Probably why his wife divorced him...

I agree though, Jimmy ain't funny but he did discover Adam so I praise him for that.

Jimmy seems funny when he's with Adam, like I always remember laughing when Jimmy would call in. As a talk show host he doesn't seem too good. I think it's the same way with Adam, anytime he's forced to use dialogue or anything scripted or something that's too formal, it feels awkward and forced. He seems on top of his game on Loveline b/c it's such an intimate environment, and he feels comfortable after being there so long.
I've never heard him on Stern so I don't know how he does there, but he also usally picks up his game when comedians come on the show. Competition I guess.

I agree that he ain't that great. But who exactly is OVER-rating him? Sure, Adam loves him, but over all, it's not like you hear a lot of "Kimmel is a genuis" talk and buzz going around. And most mentions in the media about his show kinda seem to wonder why he hasn't been cancelled yet.

Although I love Jimmy, my only complaint about the show is that he's fallen into the trap of doing the one thing he was adamant about not doing when the show started which is, he no longer "talks" to the guests -- When the show began, Jimmy and the guests were having a geniune conversation. Nowadays, the guests have obviously been pre-interviewed and Jimmy is simply waiting for them to shut up so he can move on to the next scripted question. However, I get the feeling that this is probably less Jimmy's idea and more the network's idea.

Um you do realize that adamn writes half the jokes on the jimmy kimmel show.

To say killmel sucks is to say adamn sucks.
The two are exactly equal to each other.

Jimmy, himself, refers to his show as a "crappy" show.

I happen to enjoy Jimmy's show.

adam writes JKL jokes, but we all know adam is at his best with flying-by-the-seats-of-his-pants comedy(e.g. Loveline). Adam even said that if his comedy was put on paper, it would SUCK, hence no book from him. I agree. In the Man Show before, the funniest bits are situational ideas. The prewritten jokes Adam or Jimmy spout come out mostly lame. Just like the JKL jokes adam may have written for jimmy...

Didn't Jimmy hosted an awards show sometime ago? What was it - MTV Video Music Awards or something? That was a pretty big gig...

What show were you watching? JKL started out being rude and ignoring the guests more than any show I'd ever seen. Jimmy maybe hit them with one question while paying little attention to the guest the other 90% of their time. It was the one distinctly glaring irritation I certainly complained about way back then. I remember many a face with a wtf expression when he ended the segment not having focused on them.

Plus Jimmy always sounds like he's drunk slurring his speech with a monotonous dialogue. No wonder he doesn't get many laughs.

No, you're missing the point -- when JKL first started, the interview segments weren't based on a pre-interview with a standard set of questions that Jimmy "had" to ask. Regardless of whether Jimmy truly "ignored" the guests in the beginning, it wasn't formulaic the way it is now.

I see your point now but you did start out your post saying he no longer "talks" to the guests. He never really did, was my point.

I think the whole show has gotten tighter (not nec better) and that has to be scripted. It can't be loose and run smoothly. They are constantly setting up the next gag whether it is a scripted question, joke, segment with Sal or Frank or Clito, etc. There aren't any talk shows that operate in a laid back style that fit the Tonight Show talk show mold. There has to be noise, action, canned laughter, music, gags, and short segments for all the attention span challenged youth watching.

I know exactly what you mean -- It's a shame that we have to cater all our shows, movies, etc. to people who have no attention span -- It'd be so nice to see executives just allow people to do their jobs -- I was hoping Jimmy would have the freedom to do his own show, but Loyd Braun has tweaked and tweaked and tweaked the show so that it looks and feels just like any other talk show out there. I can't stand how formulaic TV and movies have become.
