where is the music

is it me or do all the bands today sound like Greenday? except for a very few exceptions, nobody today seems to be making good original music. they all sound like run-o-the-mill stoner bands with speech impediments and rythm guitars as loud as they can strum it. or black dudes (and wiggers) whose talent seems to be talking fast while background music is playing but can't pronounce worth shit and hip-hop "artists" who just remake (badly) hits from the 80's.

I think you're right that a lot of bands sound alike these days, but I don't really think they sound like Green Day. Billie Jo and company have a pretty unique sound in my opinion. Speaking of which, can't wait for American Idiot on Tuesday!!

You just aren't looking hard enough. There are many new bands out there (many of which originated in the 90's) that have great sounds, good musicians, and meaningful lyrics. Ben Folds Five, Live, Phish, DMB, Outkast, REM, Tenacious D (in that case, unique lyrics), and Incubus, just to name a few.

If you listen to the radio and watch MTV then yes, most of the bands are a watered down, processed, bland wad of filth. If you ask around for suggestions on forums such as these, you'll discover that there's a world of music outside of the mainstream that caters to people who like good music. Start asking around for somebody with a key ;)

I was just having a discussion the other day with my best friend, and we agreed that the people with the best taste in music are the ones who actively seek out new music. I mean, I discover new bands every day, and am constantly looking for new music, so I've heard pretty much everything haha, and so have other people who take this approach. But anyone who says that Yellowcard is the best band in the world, or is even their favorite band, has not been exposed to very much music.

How about metal? Dimmu Borgir, Tool, Megadeth, Iced Earth, and the like.

Heavy metal is the greatest genre of music ever invented. Except for rap/nu-metal. That shit just sucks. But yeah, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Dio, Motörhead, Dimmu Borgir, Evergrey, Iced Earth, Paradise Lost, Immortal, Entombed, Emperor, Carnal Forge, the Haunted, Dream Theater, Lacuna Coil, Exodus, Helloween, Melechesh, Ulver, Vader... it's all good! _|m|

as usuall, its cool to name heavy metal, hard rock bands, but really, what kind of music or bands still sell records and movies still use them as soundtracks? Beegees, Abba, Beachboys, Beatles. Them's the music that lasts...

But that's happy music. That music makes me want to vomit molten lead at little children.

Check out the indie scene... http://www.insound.com/

Lots of great undiscovered gems.

(Libertines and Sons & Daughters, are my 2 personal favorites at the moment...)
