The reason he might come off that way is probably because he'll never invite onto his show someone who can actually speak up and defend their views, ie someone with half a brain. He invites either people who completely agree with him and therefore kiss his ass, or he'll invite someone who couldn't talk his way out of a paper bag and just completely destroy him.
