Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 12:11 AM Edited Sunday, March 2, 2008 at 12:13 AM no but airking, all you said is "just because i like to pine", you never said over what you pined, and furthermore, the last post was 4 years ago, and adam was still on the show. he was saying that when adam took the night off in the future it should just be drew, adam is off the show now and stryker is the new cohost. also, they weren't talking about missing the good old days, they were still in the good old days. all you said is "just because i like to pine." that's not a full sentence, makes no sense, and does not give an explanation as to what you're refering you. you'd have to have said something like "even though it's never going to happen, I'll say it anyway, stryker needs to be taken off the air, just because i like to pine." just edit the post, cuz —jizzgrenade |

Monday, March 3, 2008 at 7:56 AM Edited Monday, March 3, 2008 at 8:02 AM Dear Jizz, You do realize you are the only one confused about this, yes? This is not a coincidence. This is because you are functionally retarded. Your parents probably should have explained this sooner, but they have clearly failed you. You are dumb, your brain does not work like the people around you, things that are plainly obvious to the rest of us confuse and aggravate you. This lack of brain power is why the front of your shirt is covered with drool, why you play with yourself in restaurants and why people point and stare. And, no, you are not actually from Mongolia despite what you have heard. It's complicated, but I don't have time to get into that. Now put on your little soft helmet and go outside. Your Big Wheel isn't going to peddle itself. to pine, merely means to long for something, not necessarily from the past. —jizzgrenade By nature of the word, it does relate to something from the past. You don't pine for a person or place you haven't experienced or have prior knowledge of. And, in order to have experienced something or someone, said experience has to have already happened in the past. Do I need to explain this part as well? —Beat It! |

Monday, March 3, 2008 at 3:04 PM Edited Monday, March 3, 2008 at 3:05 PM it says NOTHING about the past. look it up, and feel the realization of stupidity slowly set in. When someone says something is implicit, they usually don't mean that it is actually explicit. People generally accept the abstract concept of Time and that its relationship with our percieved reality is linear. If I say that something "will happen," I don't need to state that it will happen in the future. We can imply this subtle meaning from the context. By saying "just because i like to pine," Airking is very deftly and subtly giving his reason for bumping the four-year-old thread. He misses Adam, and this thread is perhaps slightly nostalgic for him. You could say that he likes the feeling of nostalgia. He likes to pine. It really is pretty hard to pick up on. I'm surprised everyone else understood what he meant. (Edit:Except Whois.) Airking does have a flair for subtlety, though. —derekho |

Monday, March 3, 2008 at 3:25 PM Edited Monday, March 3, 2008 at 3:26 PM You're like Jan Hus trying to convince the Council Of Constance that you're not a heretic. The American Heritage Dictionary defines pine as: 1.To feel a lingering, often nostalgic desire. 2.To wither or waste away from longing or grief It goes on to define nostalgia (in case you don't know what that means) as: 1. A bittersweet longing for things, persons, or situations of the past. 2. The condition of being homesick; homesickness. Is that clear enough? —derekho |

Monday, March 3, 2008 at 5:03 PM But you are ignoring the fact that words can, and often do, have connotative meanings that are not explicit in the definition. Also, if a credible dictionary establishes that a word has a particular definition, it does not matter whether or not another dictionary omits that definition for it to be valid. The American Heritage Dictionary says that pine can mean to feel nostalgia, and nostalgia must be for something in the past. This definition is credible and acceptable, therefore all of my points are valid. It doesn't matter how good your dictionary is, it cannot prove my definition wrong. —derekho |
