I love the guy, but whenver I heard him go off on matters of race ("..the jews..", "..the black man..") it always sounds so clumsy and awkward. It's a little hard to listen to. II also notice that DD rarely chimes in when Adam does a racial rant.

No not too right!

I always get my hand in...and keep it there. I can't keep it away, no matter how much I try. Only a little hard, did you say? I will have you know that I am more than a little hard. How dare you, sir!

I love the fact that he goes off on matters of race. Occasionally, I cringe at some of the more blatant sentiment but mostly I think it's very funny. I love that he's anti-PC to the point that Kimmel's audience, one that gleefully cheers Kimmel's bashing of most pop-culture stuff, booed Adam.

It's good that some viewpoints are still beyond the pale, even for Kimmel's audience.

At what point does extreme "anti-PC" shade into real racism, Sprewell? In the last couple of years I have heard "anti-PC" rhetoric used by the Holocaust "revisionists" and the KKK to defend their activities. After the Abu Ghraib scandal, those who decried torture were derided as "PC" by the dittoheads. When far-right sicko scum happily resort to such a demagogic tactic, you know that "PC" as a term of contempt has gone gamey and it's well past time to bury it.

Yeah, and Adam often gives him hell for it, calling him a politically correct pussy. If Drew agrees with Adam but doesn't say anything, or if he disagrees but is afraid to argue with him, it does sort of make him a pussy. What is Drew afraid of?

yeah, if drew agreed with adam's racist rants and said so, he'd never get invited back to oprah again. but if he disagreed and said so, that wouldn't hurt his reputation or his job. (drew's just too wimpy to debate adam on anything adam feels strongly about--i think he's a little afraid of adam.) but by being silent, drew risks sounding like he agrees with adam when he goes off about jews and blacks. i wish drew would grow a spine and stop being a doormat. the only time drew ever debates adam is over trivial shit, and drew is usually wrong then.

Imagine how terrible radio it would be if Drew started arguing racial issues with Adam when Adam is obviously embellishing for comedic effect as it is.

Just because the word PC has drawn a lot of hatred and is being used as a target by the KKK and holocaust revisionists doesn't make it okay again, Coleman. That's another of those dumb "slippery slope" arguments that Adam and Drew revile. What did Adam say on Kimmel that was that bad? Was it really worthy of booing? As for the dittoheads and other morons who lambast political correctness, when the amount of people bashing PC gets so large that even those loons are bashing it, you know your idealistic, thought-constraint theory has got some problems.

You tell me, Spree. You're the one who said in your previous post: I love that he's anti-PC to the point that Kimmel's audience, one that gleefully cheers Kimmel's bashing of most pop-culture stuff, booed Adam.

Why exactly do you love it, Spree? And do you not agree that a great deal of unmitigated racism finds cover under the aegis of "anti-PC" and do you not find that fact at least a little disturbing? Would it not cause you to wonder about the devolution of the term into an attack on sanity itself? Doesn't the ease with which the term lends itself to such uses bother you?

That's another of those dumb "slippery slope" arguments that Adam and Drew revile.

I'm not sure why the fact that Adam and Drew revile them is particularly relevant here. A slippery-slope argument, by the way, would claim that if we begin by criticizing some "politically correct" notions, then we'll soon end up terrorizing blacks and denying the Holocaust. But that, of course, is not what I said. I said that when evil groups such as Holocaust deniers and Ku Kluxers feel free to use the term "PC" to defend the indefensible, knowing that the built-in associations of the word can be readily adapted to promote a racist agenda, perhaps the word has become too contaminated now to use for its original purpose: ridiculing the exaggerated forms of etiquette demanded by the hypersensitive. Is there anybody here who thinks blacks and Jews--or, for that matter, all sane, decent people--are being ridiculously hypersensitive when they object to our home-grown fascists' hostile rhetoric and Big Lies?

when the number of people bashing PC gets so large that even those loons are bashing it, you know your idealistic thought-constraint theory has got some problems.

Depends on what you mean by "has got some problems." If you mean that PC must be wrong because so many people are attacking it, then you have committed the fallacy of argumentum ad populum. In any case, as I said above, it's because the loonies have adopted it so readily as a term of contempt and abuse, because it is so easily perverted to suit their agenda, that we might consider whether the term is past its pull-date.

This doesn't mean, however, that truly ridiculous positions shouldn't be ridiculed. Hell, I ridicule the ridiculous all the time. It's the (probably) irreversible devolution and perversion of the term I'm concerned about.

PC is for people who think the blacks are niggers but don't want to get shot, so they call them african-americans. It's very disingenuous.
Try not thinking of them as niggers, or even as them. Then PC won't mean anything at all.

You're so cool, MajaFan. Idiot.

Can't say I find Adam particularly racist. Well, maybe mildly, on occasion. But nothing to get too upset over. And yes, Drew is a wimp. It's pretty obvious he's a little intimidated by Adam, especially when Adam is in righteous high-dudgeon mode.

There's a tiny grain of sense in MF's last post, surrounded by his usual semi-literate drivel. PC (as originally used) humorously referred to an exaggerated form of etiquette designed to placate hypersensitive groups supposedly representing oppressed minorities: activist groups that might cause trouble for nervous administrators. One of the underlying assumptions of PC was that the claims made by these hypersensitive groups could not be held to the same standards of scrutiny as ours, that these groups were too delicate for the ordinary give-and-take of legitimate debate. There's often an implied (probably unconscious) condescension involved, as if you were dealing with children or mental defectives who had to be coddled and excused. But, as always, context matters. If the grounds of the debate are not legitimate (as is the case with Holocaust deniers and advocates of race war), PC isn't a valid charge to use against those who take offense at such outrageous claims. Sadly, the term has been hijacked and perverted by groups with an utterly loathsome agenda, as part of an attempt to "normalize" and "mainstream" their disgusting ideology.

I first became aware of this shift about four or five years ago. Once upon a time, I too blithely used PC as a term of contempt and ridicule against silly, hypersensitive people who liked to apply a double standard. But eventually I began to notice that when I used PC as way to dismiss absurd opinions, decent people would look askance at me and racist right-wing creeps would thank me for supporting their agenda. They thought I was speaking in code (nudge nudge, wink wink) and tacitly agreeing that Jews secretly controlled the world and that blacks were genetically inferior to whites. That's when I realized that the term has been hijacked and corrupted, probably forever, and should be permanently retired. I doubt it can be salvaged.

Sure, maybe forty years ago she was a babe. She's in her mid-sixties now. That's older than my parents, for God's sake! BTW, do you suffer from ADHD, Perma? Everything you say sounds so random and unconnected to the topic at hand, turning every thread into just another excuse to perform your silly little schtick. Hmmmm...that sounds suspiciously like someone else around here, who shall remain nameless.

I am NOT Pan Pan. Pan Pan is gay. I am 100% heterosexual, buddy...well, 95% hetero. It's not like I PREFER guys or anything. But when you suffer from a constant, painful, and very large erection and need to ejaculate 25 times a day (at a minimum) you sometimes have to use whatever means come to hand. I'm not proud of it...but neither am I ashamed. Like every guy here hasn't expanded his horizons a few times.

I find it funny that the main people who dont ever have to worry about being offended are the main ones talking about how being PC is a bad thing. I hear Adam rant about race and different things like that, but seriously, Adam is in little position to be lambasted because of his race. Been different if Adam was a black guy and the same thing arose.

But normally white people who are so against being PC and all this have literally nothing to feel "offended" against.

if somebody said that black people or native americans should start killing white people for what happened in the past he'd get annoyed and call them "angry."

he always uses the word "angry" as a condemnation of people. but he's one of the angriest mofos around!
