South Park

This is like the fourth time that Drew mentions a good South Park episode and Adam totally dismisses it. It's like he hates the show or the creators. I've never seen a show that totally relates what Adam always keeps saying, like cults, mormons, cigarretes and second hand smoke, psychics, toxins in the body, and mostly of all about religion. It's weird that he never mentions the show but he always mentions Family Guy, which is a very funny show but without a message. The South Park creators haven't been on Loveline since 1998 so maybe there was some bad heat between Adam and the creators during that show. Stern also hates the show and its creators so maybe that has something to do with it. Am i just talking nonsense. now that i finished typing this i realize WHOOOOOOOOOO Cares. sorry.

That's actually an interesting point. You'd think Stern and Carolla would be big fans of the show. Maybe some personal beef, as you speculated. BTW, ever notice that Drew used to offhandedly dismiss The Simpsons? Sometimes he'd say things like, "I can't believe what awful thing they said on The Simpsons the other night. I can't believe what they can get away with." (One night I'm pretty sure Drew was referring to Bart mentioning glory holes.) How funny he should like South Park, then.

I find there are two groups of people who know South Park: one never got beyond the novelty of 3rd graders swearing and the other actually watches the show. I hope Adam isn't part of the former because I generally think South Park is better than the Family Guy. Not only that, the messages of most episodes seem to be congruent with Adam's beliefs about religion, politics, etc. Cartman is also one of the best characters in cartoon history.

Well, I know Adam and Drew LOVE it, and I'm sure I'll be ripped apart around here, but "South Park" and "The Simpsons" run circles around the lame "Family Guy." Sure the dog and baby are amusing, but that's about it.

I think South Park is too overt with its social commentary, it lacks depth and subtely for it to be entertaining. I do like some episodes, but it seems to think irony is more amusing that it really is. But I do love the movie, it's a classic in my opinion.

South Park is great, the boldest social and political satire on TV today. The Simpsons used to be great but I stopped watching it a while ago (the last truly funny episode was Homer's Medical Marijuana one). Family Guy isn't quite in their league but it's still better than almost any other cartoon today.

I love both South Park and Family Guy. It's really tough to compare them since I don't think they have much in common other than being animated. Totally different brands of humor and commentary...

The primary difference, I think, between the humor of Family Guy and South Park is that Family Guy simply makes observations regarding the vice of society and really doesn't have anything of substance to say about it. On the other hand, South Park is angry about these observations and often offers (sometimes misguided) solutions.

They are both satire, but South Park has a certain anger behind it.

I personally love both of them. They make me belly-laugh and laugh until I cry like no other.

Maybe Adam's just an intelligent guy who doesn't find South Park funny. I think Adam's the funniest guy around and I first saw South Park when the Jesus episode was being circulated on the net. I can't stand South Park and I think Family Guy is pretty funny (especially Brian). So I can completely understand where he's coming from. (The Simpsons is okay; the quality goes up and down.) My favorite comedy show on TV though: MTV's Boiling Points (for a non-reality show, it would have to be Kimmel or Conan; I don't watch sitcoms anymore, including Family Guy).

I would add that the quality of SP has dropped since right before they entered grade 4. The whole "lesson at the end" has really worn on me. The show is the same every week. Matt & Trey love the fact they can take current topics and produce an episode in like 9 days or something. Don't get me wrong, I still giggle from time to time and Cartman is still one of the funniest characters ever. Maybe I'm getting old. Maybe 32 years young has disadvantages.

As for TFG, I bought all 3 DVD boxes and laugh out loud, cry and all that good shit every time I watch. Brian is another great character along the lines of Cartman.

I think South Park has gotten better after the fourth grade episode. It's gotten deeper meanings like the Biggest Douche in the Universe episode and the Mormon episode, and funnier in my opinion. Oh, and Family Guy is better than The Simpsons, not by a long shot just slightly better.

Monty Python. Hands down the funniest show ever. SCTV was very uneven, but at its best it made me laugh so hard that I literally (or should I say "actually"?) fell out of my chair. The short-lived Buffalo Bill was the best satire of TV talk shows before Larry Sanders came along.

Family Guy often mocks pop culture, movie and such...I think it's absolutely hilarious.

The Simpsons has been lacking in the past few years...but it's been on for so long and there's really only so much they can do, so far they can take it. It's like any other TV show.

South Park is GREAT, and Drew was right about the Mormon episode...one of favorites but fer sure.

Yes, South Park seems to have a large audience that like the simplistic colourful characters and the sounds of farts. Also, the censored swear words.
While I like some of those things, there are other aspects of South Park I find appealing that seem to be missed by all and sundry, fans and detractors.
Like the fact that Trey Parker gets my cock fucking rock hard! He gets my cock so hard and it stays that way for hours because he is such a sexy singer! Matt Stone is cool too. He's nice... nice... nice. Sweight.
When I saw the episode of South Park in which the boys find a man frozen since 1996, I noticed that one of the horrific and ridicilous things of 1999 that was portrayed to the 1996 man was Marilyn Manson. I thought "how could they dislike Marilyn Manson? Besides being totally cool, he has a dislike of society not unlike the South Park makers."
Hearing that Howard Stern dislikes South Park (and they him) and that Marilyn Manson dislikes South Park and that South Park dislikes Tom Green (although it is unclear how Tom Green feels about South Park) I come to the one conclusion.
People can dislike parts of themselves of which they are ignorant.
I'll give you an example. One day I came home from school and I walked into my father's room to find my brother sucking my father's dick. I screamed "you fucking cocksucker!" and beat the shit out of him, then beat my father and made him suck my dick.
It's hard to look in the mirror sometimes. Just watch NeverEnding Story, The.
The South Park guys and Manson and Howard and Adam too, each see in the disliked other things of themselves that are bad or at least seem bad (for some goddamn reason, fuck).
They all have a pretty similar bearing on life.

This is true for the musical artists Quan Yeomans, Seal, Trent Reznor, Archie Roach. While I am unaware of the feeling each has for the other (mostly ignorance of each other I expect) they all have a philosophical slant on life that is resoundingly similar and beautiful. Yet who groups these artists together? Fucking no-one! None of them even sell records anymore! Wait, is Trent Reznor still selling lots of records?

Monty Python is good. Michael Palin doesn't get at, or at least he doesn't now if he's at all honest in the interview he gave recently to Parkinson. "I didn't hate everyone the way John Cleese seemed to, I wasn't angry at all" or some such nonsense. Palin loves boring idiocy like the Lumberjack Song. No wonder all he does now is TV travel journals. Wait, all John Cleese does now is commercials and kids movies, bad ones at that. Gah, he must have an expensive house and a very beautiful, very unloving wife somewhere within the borders of the USA. How old is that nigga now?
Hands down funniest ever? Fuck, what is you talking about? I don't suppose, I know you haven't, have you seen the show Pizza? The third season of that is as good as anything ever, which puts it above Monty Python, which was sweet but had some shit skits. Big Train is likewise better than Monty Python. Red Dwarf, the crucial Lenny Henry Show, Bottom, Alexei Sayle's Stuff, Sean's Show, After Henry, Fawlty Towers(!) are all better than Monty Python. The 1994 and 1995 seasons of Full Frontal (when Eric Bana and Shaun Micallef were doing their stuff), Jimeoin, everything Shaun Micallef has done (Shaun Micallef show, Welcher and Welcher, his tonight show), The Late Show (not the one with Letterman, the one that ran from 1992 until 1993, had actors doing skits and was funny instead of pathetically inane), Frontline, Funky Squad, even A River Somewhere is a funnier show than Monty Python if you edit out all of Monty Python's bad skits and all of River's non-comedy bits, How Do You Want Me?, Black Books, Coupling (why did they try and remake that show?), the Goodies.
All of those shows are better than Monty Python. They're all funnier. So is South Park. So is Dr Katz. Also, King of the Hill. The Fast Show as well. New York Daze. Rude Awakening is the best sitcom ever made. It's funnier than Monty Python.
I like Monty Python a lot. It's about the same level as The Young Ones. Funny, but not as funny as any of those shows above. i.e it's likeable so you forgive the lame bits. Unless you laugh at the lame bits because you too are lame.
I hate writing lists of the things I like. Things that are gone, that are still here, that will they come again? But I've got some problems at the moment so what else am I gonna do? Ah, maybe something good instead of something shit? Fuck you!
Hey I like Married with Children too. More listing. No, fuck you!

p.s the Simpsons has never been any good. It has been shit since the very first episode. There has never been a funny episode. It has never told a clever joke. It has Homer's characterisations which can be endearing the way Ace Ventura is (try watching Ace Ventura 2 before seeing the first movie and finding "alllrighty then" funny). Maybe the other characters too. It has no subtlety, no consistency and always but always falls back on sentiment by the end of every episode (the audience forgets they're watching a comedy, how cute. The comedy is so bad that a warm moment is a relief. Yay). Therebesides I fucking hate the awful garish animation. Only in the current heartland of kitsch could such horrible art be even remotely appreciated on even a novelty level.
The Family Guy on the other hand, has characters without yellow skin.

If you like the Simpsons, or Family Guy, you're one of the people that is the focus of hate from intelligent people. Now I say this without justification. They're really bad shows though.
I don't actually mind that Adam Carolla likes a show as bad as family guy. Nor do I dislike the fact that he digs motor sports and constantly champions masturbation in sickness and in health. I think the reason for this is that while I do like Adam Carolla as a philanthropic celebrity of the soul, I am not a literal sycophant of his.
"Limousines and sycophants, don't leave me now cause..."

One of these days I am going to type something of truly earth-shattering wisdom and then you'll all be fucking sorry, you'll see. I will create!
Oh my god.

I've heard commentary from the Simpsons DVD's and producer Al Jean mentions a lot that Family Guy copies The Simpsons a lot. He says that Family does a lot a flashbacks for certain jokes and ever since they did that, the simpsons stopped doing that because Family Guy killed it. Family Guy is a really funny show because of that and ever since the simpsons stopped doing that, it really sucks now. If Family Guy copied anything, i would have to say they copied The Critic. Another great show which is created by Al Jean.

Kevin Smith has no talent whatsoever as a film director. His movies always look cheap and crummy, even when he's been given a fairly big budget. He has no idea how to block a scene or transition effectively from one scene to the next. His stiff, clunky dialogue can make even good actors sound amateurish. He is vastly overrated as a wit: In each of his movies, there are about three or four good lines surrounded by a lot of pretentious, pseudo-clever dreck.
