Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 9:08 AM I was just flitting around the internet on my spare time ( of course, my employer may not consider it MY time, but...) and noticed this brand-spankin-new review on that Drew and Adam book on Amazon. By the way, El Cerrito, CA is in the SF East Bay area. Enjoy: "BurnedOut Hosts Need to Retire, July 26, 2004 Reviewer: Gwen Iturare (El Cerrito, CA) - See all my reviews I used to listen to Adam and Drew's radio show quite a lot. But over the years the hosts have grown more and more arrogant and irrelevant. I think the problem is that Adam Carolla acquired a horde of 14-year-old worshippers who hang on his every word and think he's the smartest, funniest person who ever lived. After having his ego stroked for so long and being applauded for dumping on his servile, masochistic fans, Adam has become extremely egotistical and cruel. One might expect the co-host, Dr. Drew Pinsky, to counteract his partner's egotism and nastiness, but he tries to imitate it instead. Where once Dr. Pinsky would give thoughtful, considerate advice, now he is even more dismissive and snotty than his shock-jock sidekick. It's as if each were trying to outdo the other in vanity and contempt for their fans. Loveline has ceased to be helpful and has now become another depressing example of the new Humiliation Entertainment that has infected our media. This book is simply a hasty transcription of some of Adam and Drew's canned routines. As another reviewer has said, it looks even worse in print: stale, stupid, and meanspirited. Adam and Drew, please retire and let someone else who isn't so burned out and contemptuous try to help the troubled kinds who are foolish enough to ask you for advice, under the mistaken impression that you actually care about them." Her other reviews (this is great) were written for Finding Nemo DVD and an Avril Lavigne CD. Teehee. —Lou Cypher |

Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 10:04 AM I also think that it's very ironic for him to review a 5 year old book and call it stale. Of course it's stale, it's a 5 year old book concerning two nightly radio talk-show hosts. —Erlog |

Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 2:53 PM Why ironic? Irrelevant, maybe. But there's nothing particularly ironic about Gwen's complaint. If her review was stale, that would be ironic. I don't entirely agree with her criticism. She's right about Adam getting a little snotty because of his success, but Adam and Drew are not burned out--at least not consistently. Their pissy attitudes seem to come and go. Some nights they are in top form and clicking with everyone. Other nights they obviously would rather be somewhere else. But whom would she choose as replacements--Whoopi and Dr. Phil? —Coleman |

Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 4:00 PM I've listened for 6 years and think the show is good as ever, I still pick up new info when I least expect it, and Adam still makes me laugh. —piesore |

Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 5:43 PM I've been listening for 6-7 years too and the show is the same but different every night. It's nice and I like it the way it is. Adam and drew may have changed a tad, but theyre still the same as 5 years ago. I'll listen to loveline as long as its on the air. (and i have internet.) —Darkfloyd |

Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at 5:55 PM Why is that retard criticizing the hosts and NOT reviewing the book? I guess because the hosts are the authors and the book is supposedly (I don't know, not having read the book) just a transcript of various shows, so that what's wrong with Adam and Drew is what's wrong with the book. It's still a weak move on her part. She should have cited specific examples from the book to bolster her case. As it is, she just sounds like a crank. —Coleman |
