Sunday, August 1, 2004 at 11:31 PM This has been bothering me for some time. A 17 year-old caller asked about his recent circumcision due to the inability of his foreskin to slide past the glans when erect. This is called phimosis. A meatal stenosis occurs sometimes when newly-circumcised penises get infected and the meatal opening becomes narrowed. The thing is, Drew USED to call it phimosis, but for the past 2 years or so, he's been referring to this condition as stenosis. Phimosis occurs in less than 1% of uncircumcised men, nowhere near what Drew's pro-circumcision bias might have you believe. What's interesting is that newly-circumcised babies have a 9-10% chance of developing meatal stenosis (in the US), requiring further surgery. PPM —Passionate, Passionate Man |
