Edited Thursday, September 16, 2004 at 7:07 AM EVERYTHING in media is about RATINGS!!! Ratings in Entertainment shows mean people enjoy what you are putting out (e.g. Loveline) ...ratings in News Shows means people TRUST what you put out.
CNN and other cable news orgs that are taking a BIG ratings hit from FOX is just sour-graping and trying to portray FOX News watchers as dumb. That is the intellectual ELITISM that turned me off CNN. First off, no, high ratings doesn't mean people trust you. All it means is, people like you. That can mean any number of things, the most likely of which is, you're giving the people what they want, which may not necessarily be the truth. Second, you mentioned Loveline... I wish, I sincerely wish they didn't appeal so much to ratings either. They might not make such a hard swerve away from any scientific or intellectual discussions that come up on the show if they would just stop catering to all those stoned 14-year-olds. —Dark Laith |
