I cannot use the DC hub because (fill in the blank) and live in an area that doesnt get Loveline on the radio due to 1 prick who complained about the content so i really need it. I am completely tied down to 64.29.16.135 for my talk show addiction. PLEASE HELP Thank You :) —justinbaily21 |

Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 12:48 PM For newsreaders most folks use either Forte Agent or Xnews. I like Xnews but that's just me. Others swear by Agent. I never could get the DC Hub thingy working even though I followed the instructions to a tee. I was on passive, fwiw. Call me paranoid but I also don't like throwing my IP around if I can help it. I will, however, jump onto FTP if I need an old show. If you just need the latest shows a.b.great is the way to go. Aside from LL, a.b.great is chock-full of other 'talk radio' shows. No asskissing, 'wait in line', 'hope it's still there' bs you get with IRC, etc. Simply find out what your ISP's newserver is and plug the server into your newsreader. Then simply load up the alt.binaries.great group and download as little or as much as you want. There is no quota to speak of. The only drawback with the the newsgroups is you will only get a few days worth of retention meaning a show posted, say, 10 days ago would have already run off the server. So unless you pay for a premium (read: longer) newsfeed, you have to be on your toes... —digger |

Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 2:16 PM You should be able to get SOME shows if you connect to the DC hub as passive. The only limitation is that you cannot get shows from people who are also connected as passive. There's really not a good way to know how they're connected I don't think. The icon by their name is supposed to show that I think, but I'm not sure how reliable it is. I'm for sure Active, so if you go on there as Passive you SHOULD be able to download from me. —puck71 |

Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 5:49 PM I use outlook express. I don't do too much reading of newsgroups, except to get loveline. —Matt |

Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 6:48 PM I don't think you put yourself at any risk by connecting to the hub. Just splurge the $12 on a firewall/router and don't worry about it. As far as the server network, the person who records the show is/was having some internet problems and has been unable to send me the show. The servers should still be up and running. I am a little confused by the "it seems to be working now" comment. Was it not working or are you just referring to the availability of the shows you want (or lack thereof)? —NJC |

Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 7:31 PM Hrm. For me the website was working, but the shows were gong up at weird times and it would occasionally drop out on me. Now it 'works' in the way that the shows are up but very dissorganized and strange. The Jeremy show is kinda fuzzy, eh, mabye im just spoiled. Does anyone have a direct link to any of these loveline download sites for someone who is computer illiterate like me instead of all the a.b.great stuff you guys are throwing around? Thanks for the help and lending of your expertice. —justinbaily21 |

Thursday, July 15, 2004 at 7:45 PM In general, they aren't posted on many "normal" websites, so direct links are tough. —puck71 |
