Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 10:34 PM Edited Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 10:34 PM Sorry if this is old news to everybody, but ABC is finally planning to air adam's new show on July 11 at 9 p.m. I've only seen one review of it so far, and it was a good one: "The Great Domestic Showdown" held my attention, which is no small feat because as a card-carrying reality TV hater, I automatically give two strikes to any show that presents itself as yet another wacky unscripted adventure. I braced myself for "The Great Domestic Showdown" by lining up empty water bottles to hurl at the screen. Instead, I wound up laughing at Carolla's jokes. —joe bloggs |

Monday, July 12, 2004 at 5:16 AM Edited Monday, July 12, 2004 at 5:42 AM Did ABC advertise this show enough to put the winner on Good Morning America, give them a book deal and their own TV show? This is a huge prize for something that appeared out of nowhere. It will see more attention after the fact. Even if a lot of people watched it (I doubt) they can't do another one if they give out these prizes. It was a cross between The Apprentice, Queer Eye and Trading Spaces. It was so uneven and cheesy yet it took itself seriously enough that the show was funnier than it tried to be. Adam wasn't attempting to be a Jeff Probst type host yet said many Survivor Challenge lines. He was funny a few times and better at delivery (for Adam) except he often looked at the cue cards instead of the camera. I would not have watched it if not for Adam. The contestants were dull. Now they are stuck promoting the winner. They may have to rerun it to give more people the chance to get familiar with it. —Art |

Monday, July 12, 2004 at 2:15 PM From hearing Adam talk on Loveline last night, the prizes aren't guaranteed. They have a "potential" book deal and a "pitch meeting" for a "possible" TV show. The only thing that was guaranteed from what I understood was the cheesy drill trophy and the Good Morning America appearance. —puck71 |
