Adam and Drew have repeatedly said there is a guy putting a female bogus caller up to the task. Maybe this applies to Loveline callers but I have known chicks who would do bogus calls to radio stations or friends and friends of friends. They would call radio stations pretending to be interested in hitting on the DJ or they would call some poor shmuck at any hour of the night seeing how far they could get the guy to go. One time a friend called a guy who had gone out with her friend. They set up a rendezvous at some place in town then drove to the location and did a stakeout to see if the guy showed up. The level of sophistication I have witnessed has surpassed the relatively crude and juvenile techniques dudes typically use.

The epitome of prank calls if you ask me is this guy who calls Howard Stern's guests, usually dudes, as a chick who wants to bang them, and seriously mid sentence he switches to a deep male voice. I dont know how its done but it really doesn't sound like its just some dude. But, its hysterical cuz it will really throw the guest off sometimes. And its not Captain Janks..

However, I dont know how Drew and Adam function sometimes. I think 3/4 of the calls are fake.

Most of Stern's calls are people on payroll. There are a few that are actual listeners but most of the time they come from a pool of people that provide stimuli to take the show in various directions or break the monotony.

Speaking if Stern, he has always coddled Robin appeasing her insatiable need to be reassured, included, acknowledged, and complimented. Because he may finally leave radio he is trying to boost Robin's confidence more than usual. We have to suffer through her horribly unfunny attempts to be part of the humor as Stern brainwashes her into believing she is actually funny. The only thing she brings to that aspect of the show is being a good audience. She has a sense of humor and a great laugh but she is not funny when she tries to be a comedian and do impersonations or mimicking. She should stick with laughing.

Artie Lang isn't funny and has the most forced and faked laugh. "Eh huh huh huh" Sure. They have decided to make a spectacle of his indulgences rather than spotilght his humor. Is it talent to take free shots from the audience and drink til you shit your pants? On the same note is Cousin Sal on JKL funny or just an obnoxious jerk? Anyone can do what they do.

Adam and Stern are funny and talented to genius levels.

ipod-

I'm pretty sure the (I'm assuming its a) guy who sounds like a chick is using a voice modifier. They are actually pretty cheap and can raise or lower your voice from convincing to ricockulous levels.

I don't know, the Touch-Tone Terrorists use those all the time, and it always seems real obvious to me.

The Lame Ingineers, on the other hand, are 100% authentic. Though they couldn't afford all that new-fangled voice modulating and mixing board equipment dat dem Touch-Tone Terrorists had, I reckon. Dem boyz is da masters of da coppa wire... and shit.

yeah, adam and drew are behind the times on some things.

i know quite a few chicks who do/have done prank calls, with no urging from guys. often when there arnt even any other guys around.

also from my experience, these chicks are usually the fatherless, attention seeking, dramatic, manic-depressive types...

AC,
You say "Most of Stern's calls are people on payroll."
Are you high?
That's like saying miriam is on loveline's payroll.
What are you basing that on?

Yeah..They're definitely not on payroll but if you do a ton of good calls you might win a prize, or get flown to events like Vegas on their dime (and probably have like 20 connections and delays on the cheap airline they book you on)

Loveline doesnt seem to have any regular bogus callers except for Miriam, though..

The guy with the femme voice that turns masculine mid-sentence is zolar, he tries to pull that just about every day and it still cracks me up every time I hear it. I totally fall for it usually too, his site-> http://www.xyzolar.com/

Stern has a pool of people that call posing as listeners. Just like Adam called as a character on an LA radio station, if you listen regularly you will recognize the voices of these callers. This is a nationally syndicated show. The odds that you could get through are limited yet certain people call every week if not everyday. They clearly have a different number allowing them access.

Some calls are just listeners but he does have ringers.

Mirriam is a lame comparison. To say it is the same thing is ricockulous.

Having different #s is not being on payroll.

Get your argument straight and then present it.

Play the petty argument game with someone else.

I was just describing more signs. It isn't something he would cop to. Do you think Stern has a page on his website that discloses salaries or something?

Every radio station has what's called a "warm line", and the number to that line is a carefully guarded secret. It's only given out to a select few people, so that they can call in whenever they want, without having to wait (unless someone else happens to be using the warm line, of course).

ipod is right and you know it.
there is such a thing as a hotline number, as any regular listener of stern would know.
that's how dominic barbara gets through so quickly. are you saying he's on the payroll?
loveline has a hotline too, but even still, there are callers who manage to get through frequently.

Just FYI, the "hot line" number is the one that everyone calls on (800-LOVE-191 for Loveline, etc...). Like I said previously, the private number is the "warm line".

Which makes it that much more interesting when some people manage to always get through with an amazing frequency -- Does anyone remember Franky-Camaro who used to call about three or four years ago? He was the guy who was having sex with his girlfriend's mother -- For a while there, it seemed like he was on the air every other night.

Of course there are people with some form of celebrity status that contribute to the show and they would encourage to call whenever they had something to offer. How do these people get the number? Obviously it is selectively given out. Barbara and Stern are friends BTW. Stern has vacationed with him many times.

Think of the small fish that routinely get through. How did they ever get the special number? What is their incentive especially if they are using the regular line and have to fight to get through? The "payroll" may not be cash. They might get other radio promo incentives but they are encouraged to call and I have no doubt that Stern has some he actively works with to call with bits he plays off of to insure good radio production.

Now argue amongst yourselves.

The Lame Ingineers are are aptly described by their entry in the freedb.org database.

Lame Ingineers is a group of would be fornicators that make prank phone calls, and roam around Boulder Colorado.
Though more than one of the Lame Ingineers was banished to an engineering contracting firm in florida, and has been banging strippers. Unfortunately, he only roams around Boulder Colorado on Holidays.

I doubt many of yee people will get down to this post because of the many, many, many words from many, many, many posts by very passionate, passionate, passionate listeners, but I believe the chick-to-deep-male-voice-guy is a janitor in NYC somewhere. He used to do that schick on the Don & Mike show a lot when they were syndicated here. I think he's all-natural too, meaning: No voice modifiers.

I don't think it's a modifier either. It's too natural, especially in the transition.

It sucks that he was on Don & Mike though, that shit was so terrible. I'll bet if Stern knew he was on that shit he wouldnt let him on anymore.
