Sunday, June 6, 2004 at 2:44 PM Woman allegedly set on fire by boyfriend dies Sun-Sentinel Posted June 5 2004, 3:14 PM EDT A Miami woman whose boyfriend allegedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire died today as a result of her injuries, according to local police. Dorothy Lundy suffered burns to more than 60 percent of her body and was listed in extremely critical condition at the Ryder Trauma Center Burn Unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Miami police said the boyfriend, Thomas Mobley, Jr., is still at large. When Mobley was arrested earlier on charges of pouring hot oil on Lundy, she bailed him out of jail. But police say that didn't stop Mobley from trying to harm Lundy. On May 10, Mobley returned to Lundy's home, chased her outside, doused her with gasoline and lit a match or lighter, police said. Lundy's 11-year-old son ran after her, patting her body with his bare hands in an attempt to put out the flames. According to police, Mobley broke into Lundy's home carrying a bleach bottle full of gasoline. Although Mobley tried to flee, Mobley caught her on the porch and allegedly poured gasoline on her. She tried to run to her neighbor's house, but Mobley caught up to her again and set her on fire, police said. Lundy's son, who was home at the time of the attack, suffered second-degree burns on his hands. Lundy, 53, and Mobley, 47, met more than a year ago when Mobley was working as a handyman at the home of Lundy's mother, police said. During their relationship, Lundy grew to fear Mobley, her family said. Still, she bailed him out when he was accused of the hot oil attack last month.
