Opie and Anthony and Loveline. (My friend is next to me going "Hey Thomas, don't forget Stryker! Gotta have Stryker!" So I just gave him the look...) And also, can't go wrong with a healthy dose of classic rock.

Ok, well, my ideal...

Alt-Rock music in the morning, say from 5am-10am (I know, novel, music in the morning), Sports Talk (so sue me!) from 10am-2pm, Top 40 from 2-4pm, alt-rock 2-10pm, umm, that LoveLung show or whatever with Anton Corolla and Dr. Dre until midnight, NPR-type deep shit until 5am.

Play a shitload more music than the stupid clear channel stations, but not go into elitist indie territory, like the wussburger college stations.

No, elists are pussies. Especially with music. Retards think they're not only better as people because they know more about obscure music, but that they should keep it this way, acting like snotty assholes to whoever is less informed than them, instead of trying to educate them. It's just them trying to artifically create some sort of construct so they can feel better about their own miserable lives. The emaciated scensters who stand with their arms folded in the front row at shows, moping the whole time at a band they paid to see. They need to fucking die, or get a life.
Yes, my name is silly. Yours, on the other hand...you're quoting Shakespeare, right?

Piesore, your post positively drips with the hatred and resentment typical of the lowly. You must spit on anything that remotely challenges you, because it is JUST TOO HARD to learn to appreciate the kind of indie rock played on, for instance, the wonderful student radio stations at Yale. If you are not up to learning about Creme De La Trounce or Duplex Silencio or a dozen other thoughtful and challenging Yalie indie bands, then at least refrain from trying to spoil the elevating experience for those with a bit more brains, taste, and discrimination, who might actually be able to understand what these bright young musicians are endeavoring to teach the hoi polloi. It's people like you who turn our culture into the Britney-worshipping cesspool it has become. America used to be a strong country until troglodytes like you (with your idiotic, meaningless nicknames) dragged it down to where it is today. Thank the Lord that people like Donald Rumsfeld are trying to bring some pride back to us!

One more thing, if you won't explain your foolish moniker, at least change it to something less embarrassing.

oh yes, because "sick fuck" definetly reflects your intelect and personality. by the way, you used "troglodytes" in the worst way ever. you are calling him an animal that lives in a hole in the ground. how does that relate to someone who brings down american society? im pretty sure you are just blurting out words you think no one else would know just to make yourself look smart. well, we arent buying it. get a life.

Hmmm. I would get mad, but it's pretty obvious you're a troll...I'm extremely involved in the independent music community, I go to plenty of shows, spend what I can on CDs, try to talk to bands and get to know them, and am going to apply for a show at my local college station. You seemed to miss my point. It has nothing to do with the music, as the attitude surrounding it. Again, there's a wonderful opportunity for people to expose the masses to bands which are deserving of airplay, but they're the ones who get upset when "their" band starts to get the attention its deserves. It's that retarded elitist mentality which is much more concerned with the image surround the music that makes hipsters as shallow as anything presented by the mainstream. The only difference is they're a lot more poor and bitter.
A good audience member shows appreciation for the band they went out to to see. To mope at them right in front of the stage is simply disrespectful. If you don't like it fine, stand in the back, and let people who actually want to see them play stand in front. It's all part of hipster indie cred to be snooty and a prick.
My name, it rhymes with eyesore, I've posted on other messageboards where that was taken, so I chose this instead.
And by Britney, I'm assuming you're talking about Britney Spears. Guess what, most of her albums were released by Jive Records, an INDEPENDENT LABEL. Indie rock is a non genre. Whether you're indie or mainstream has nothing to do with anything, it's the attitude behind the music. The attitudes surrounding indie rock are almost as stale as popular music, the bands that are getting pushed as as saving the genre are overtly copping their sounds from groups 30 years old, instead of trying to create something groundbreaking and exciting. Sure, what's groundbreaking is relative, but that just ties back into my first point there's not the support of up and coming bands that there often should be. There should be a nurturing community, not a shattered group of hipsters who are always trying to one up each other on the obscurity of their record collection.

That's interesting, piesore. I didn't know that Britney Spears was signed with an independent record company. What is the definition of "independent"? I take it that it's not a matter of size or money or sales, since Britney is huge. Is it some legal term?

i think he means its not run by clear channel, time warner, or warner brothers. but sitll, i think jive might actually be considered non-indie. im not sure though, i think i did hear that they were independent, but it doesnt make much sense. if someone knows, please let me know.

Clear Channel doesn't own any record companies.

And I have no idea what piesore was smoking when he said Jive was an independent label. Unless independent means something very different to him, Jive isn't independent at all. They're part of the RIAA just like all the other big guys.

piesore is a big fat pseud. His explanation for his chosen nickname is pathetic. Eyesore, indeed! It isn't even a good pun.

Of course it figures that a simple mind like superpoo would be impressed by such a pseud. Your choice of idols says a lot about your own mentality, little boy.

Jive is an independent label, or at least it was, I don't know if it was bought out by one of the majors:
By industry definition, a major label is a label that commands a high percentage of the annual sales of records, and has their own distribution system. ( The Big 5 distribution companies currently are: WEA, BMG, SONY, UMVG, and EMD.)
That's from:
http://www.musicbizacademy.com/knab/articles/recorddeal.htm
about 1/2 down. Jive isn't owned by one of those companies, so they're considered independent...I've heard that said a few times, which always made me wonder, but here:
http://www.time.com/time/musicgoesglobal/na/mjive.html
It says their an indie the first sentance of the second paragraph and later in the article it talks a little about why there are advantages of being such an popular indie label, as well as the company's origins.
Being indie, and being successful aren't mutually exclusive, as Jive shows. Also, like Jive, being indie doesn't mean embracing creativity over marketing.
But again, when people get wrapped up with what's indie and what's major, they get concerned more with image than what will be the best situation for them. Majors know bands care about keeping their "cred", and as a result have started many psuedo indie labels which seem to run independently from their parent company in order to lure the unsuspecting group in. That's why the hipster elitists are such idiots, they're fostering this attitude of caring about this image of indiness and obscurity, and as a result, a lot of bands get screwed in record deals, as well as by their supposed fans.
Sick fuck: could you post websites and related information about those bands you mentioned?

Christopher Lowell and Frank De Caro in the morning, something rough-trade in the afternoon (some Christian fundamentalist construction workers, perhaps), and the Village People and techno-beat all night long...with a two-hour break for dear dear Adam and Drew, of course!
