Friday, May 7, 2004 at 5:28 AM It turns out that WHEB-FM in Portsmouth, NH is a Clear Channel affiliate, and they just acquired Loveline last week. I wrote a brief memo to the station using the generic website feedback form, and the PD responded: "We saw an opportunity with Loveline and seized it while it was up for grabs. Hopefully there are more listeners like yourself that enjoy our newest show. Thanks for listening! ALEX JAMES PD/MD 100.3 WHEB" Interestingly, his email address is alexjames@clearchannel.com. They won't broadcast Howard Stern, but they are pro-actively taking the initiative to broadcast Loveline, post-nipplegate. Does anybody have any ideas as to why Clear Channel would choose to make these seemingly contradictory decisions? —presidents04 |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 11:40 AM Broadcast time, that's why. After 10 p.m. anything goes, almost. Before that, must not ever offend the kiddies. That's as it should be anyway. WHen I find the right genetic stock for breeding, I'm going to shelter my offspring from all the filth that I secretly enjoy as an adult. WHen they are strong enough and old enough, I will inform my sons how things are and how they can enjoy themselves with inferior women aslong as they don't get stuck paying for a bunch of rugrats. —horndog |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 11:41 AM Have you two actually watched Stern's TV show? I must admit that I don't listen to his radio show, I've never heard it in fact, and before I saw his TV show I considered it equivalent to Pamela Anderson's show V.I.P. (especially since my friends watched the two shows back-to-back). But now I watch his TV show whenever he has interesting guests. He often makes them squirm (worth the price of the show itself) and the result is often entertaining. btw, this is not a defense of his radio show, which is probably padded out to all hell I'm sure. —sprewell |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 12:00 PM Yeah, I've seen Stern's TV show. It's only good when he's got hot sad sick porn stars on. I only wish they didn't blur out the tits and pussies when the whores flash 'em. I also like the way he humiliates them by asking them simple questions like what's 4x4 or who's the vice president. It's so funny and it turns me on knowing I'm better than they are and I could easily impress them with my intelligence. WIth my good physique and my larger than average penis and my superior intelligence, it's a shame that I'm stuck in this shithole while hot dumb bitches like that are all in New York getting ridiculed by Howard. Shit, just two more years and I'm moving there! —horndog |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 3:16 PM do you guys think he is offensive or just boring? I love the interviews with celebrities but the strippers and retards are boring as hell, also I hate it when he tries to be the "every-man" and acts like he has no money. But I love artie, he's funny as hell without being all bitter and insulting, and I still listen every morning because there is always some kind of action and there is still nothing else nearly as entertaining at that time —mX |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 3:49 PM Loveline isnt subject to the same FCC standards as Stern is it? Because of the time of day it airs? So, Clear Channel obviously isnt scared about getting fined for Loveline, whereas Stern, its only a matter of time between fines. —mikeyfish |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 4:00 PM I agree that Howard Stern is usually boring as hell. I think the reason that it's better on TV is because they edit out the most boring parts. Anybody listed to Tom Leykis? I used to enjoy that guy's show, but damn he takes the whole offensive against women too far. Either way both Leykis and Loveline get away with more offensive material because of the time of day that they come on. I hope that Loveline doesn't meet the same fate that Leykis, Paul Harvey, Rush Limbaugh, and Howard Stern have met. That fate being short segments in between commercial breaks, and multiple product endorsements. I guess Adam might already be doing commercials for Axe cologne. I just hope that they don't take it too far. —paul1732 |

Friday, May 7, 2004 at 4:31 PM I find it both boring and offensive, mX. Ever since BoobyGate, all he's been able to say is "The FCC hates me..." "I hate the FCC..." "They're out to get me, wah wah wah." Granted, I'm on his side about this issue - I'm free speech all the way - but seriously, it gets old...and quick. As for the offensive part, probably the one episode that turned me off the most was a few months ago when he recorded some chick having sex with a midget. The girl was so obviously not into it (she sounded near tears) and they were just capitalizing on her victimization. Not funny at all. —nvgoddess |

Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 9:48 AM I think I know why C.C. picked up loveline. They did it to bring back listeners and advertising to make money for their respective markets. Not sure if you guys know this but in the 6 markets that C.C. had Howard Stern on ratings have dropped on average about 10 million listeners. I listen to Howard and loveline and I am a fan of most talk radio, too bad it has come to this. Here is a paragraph of an entertainment artical I found, In San Diego, one of the markets where his show was removed by Clear Channel, radio station KIOZ-FM's drive-time ratings dropped from an 8.9 share in February to 0.7 in March, the first month without Stern. Stern's show remains syndicated on a total of 36 stations nationwide. —joemama |

Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 2:31 PM The Loveline vs Stern argument could go on for days. I think they're both just as dirty. But stern's been doing it more publicly and longer, so for me that gives him seniority too. And it'd seem ridiculous if they'd boot Stern and then put on Loveline, when they knew what they were getting into with Stern in the first place. Clear Channel is such a hypocrisy its not even funny. Pretty soon Radio One, CLear Channel, Infinity, WestWood One...It'll all be just one big conglomorate and everyone will be stroking everyone else. —dr ipod |

Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 7:55 PM i think that loveline is still on because the sexual references arent just there to be funny, but are real life experiences and gives kids that need help the chance to call in and get help. how many 15 year old rape victims and heroin addicts got help from howard sterm? —superhew |

Sunday, May 9, 2004 at 6:55 AM yeah I hear you nvgoddess, he has certainly used the "this is what the government doesn't want you to hear" angle to boost ratings and it has definitely worked. But the people that come on there to do things like have sex with midgets are all on there voluntarily, so he's not really creating this stuff, he's just exposing it. But of course most of these people have been exploited their whole lives and don't really know how to do anything else, so it's hard to say if that is really victimization or not but I can definitely see where people are coming from when they say that it is. I wish drew was there sometimes to dig into the pasts of these people to put it into context though, that would certainly make it seem less innocent —mX |
