Monday, March 22, 2004 at 12:43 AM Any IRC (Internet Relay Chat) rooms up during the live shows? I know there used to be one that would get a good number (usually around 80 people) that I helped to moderate about five years ago, but I havent found any since then. Also didnt Dr. Drew used to have one that he would occosionaly look in during the show? —Z |

Monday, March 22, 2004 at 2:53 AM That was on drdrew.com, which Drew ended up selling to The Man. I think people used to gather in an "AOL Chatroom" named "loveline" during "the show" and would "chat" with "each other" very "frequently" with "keyboards" and "computers." That seems like a little better idea than IRC, because... Well.. IRC is gay. AOL chatrooms are also gay, but I would take them over IRC anyday. —ZT |

Monday, March 22, 2004 at 4:57 AM ZT, your use of quotes about AOL chatrooms was dead on. The Direct Connect hub is a good place to meet up during "the show", theres usually a good 20 people in there during the show. —dr ipod |

Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 9:09 AM If you half a brain you can moderate an irc channel easily and wont have those problems. Also an AOL chatroom has just as many fucktards on it as irc chat rooms do. —rockollafan |

Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 2:33 PM Of course, you can waste your day setting up auto protects and drinking pig semen, and become king of IRC. Or you could just join a simple chatroom using a client just about everyone has, and save the pig semen for a christmas present. —ZT |

Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 5:36 PM IRC user hates AOL user and vice versa. Yeah, that's original!! For the record I use AOL but I have knowledge of IRC, however these days its practically obsolete unless you want to spend all day tweaking your settings and installing all sorts of scripts, like ZT says. Any advanced AOL user knows its a whole different community on AOL and when used properly it can actually be better than IRC. —dr ipod |

Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at 11:14 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ZT "Or you could just join a simple chatroom using a client just about everyone has" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Umm last I checked AOL isnt free, and unless AIM supports AOL chat rooms I dont think theres any way of getting around paying. Also, most people dont use AOL, wile on the other hand, IRC is 100% free. There are hundreds of chat clients out there, mIRC being the most popular, which is completely free, downloads in under a minute, and is extremely easy to set up. Moderating an IRC chat is also very simple. You dont need bots or scripts, and even if you do use them, I can download, and setup a spam/flood/auto ban bot in 5-10 minutes. But I digress..... I will try to start a loveline chat next week when I get back home. I'll probally use DalNet. —Z |

Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 12:28 AM Just for history's sake I would like to say that there have been a few attempts in the past by members of this community to set up a Loveline IRC channel, all of which failed. Trig even customized a mIRC download which automatically connected to the server and the channel, and he hosted the server for months - with no luck. I don't say this to discourage you, but I also wouldn't want you to waste your time setting up something that will have similar results. It's possible that there are now more people who read the board since it was last attempted, and you may get better results if you do try again (or maybe you know of a good way to get more people not affiliated with this forum to join?) - but traditionally it seems to come down to a lack of user volume, and possibly lack of interest (after all, we do have this forum in which the show is discussed). There were also a few stints of a nightly AIM chat that were successful for a short period of time, which soon turned to chaos, after which they stopped taking place. To date the only successful Loveline chat that I've seen is the Direct Connect hub, which gets a good chat going on most nights during the show (although, not necessarily about the show). I believe that it has worked because people initially gather to share and download shows, and the chat is a side-effect of the traffic; draw your own conclusions, but that is a brief history for your contemplation. —Kevin U. |
