Sunday, March 21, 2004 at 2:59 PM Ah, such a treasure trove of loveline information...I never knew about this until yesterday. I'm going to waste way too much of my time now d/ling episodes I missed, or want to revisit. Anyways...I d/led direct connect, but still really haven't gotten around to using it...I was looking for the at the drive in episode. I listened to it, but it was before i liked them, and I was suprised that even to this day Adam mentions them by name. He doesn't like a lot of bands, but they had to have done something to REALLY piss him off if he keeps specifically referring to them. So I was just wondering does anyone know the date of the episode, I went to http://loveline.njctech.com/Shows and couldn't find it by name. Maybe it doesn't exist, but it's post 2000, so I figured it's floating around somewhere. —piesore |

Sunday, March 21, 2004 at 10:14 PM The download links on each show in the database generally point to servers with user restrictions, so that is probably the cause of the error you are getting; if you have an FTP client I suggest trying to log onto Trig's FTP and downloading it manually, or getting Direct Connect and downloading it off one of the users. —Kevin U. |

Friday, March 26, 2004 at 1:22 PM Thanks, I was able to listen to it, and I'm still baffled. I'd assumed they'd come off as pretentious assholes, but they seemed very nice and laughed most of Adam's jokes. There was a point where they attacked a caller for trying to coerce oral sex from a girl, but even Adam agreed that was wrong. Does anyone know where he's specifically said why he hates them so much? I don't think the music could grate him that much, because there are tons of bands he doesn't like and he never insults them by name years later. I've just heard a few times some offhand remarks, like "wow, linkin park is coming in tomorrow, good thing they don't SUCK like at the drive in" or something like that, but never saying why he hated them beyond the fact that he thought they were pricks. Which they really didn't seem like to me when I listened to the show. —piesore |

Friday, March 26, 2004 at 9:46 PM Yeah, I just went back and listened to that show again too -- they really weren't as bad as he makes them out to be -- I mean, he talks as if they were the worst band ever. I think a lot of Adam's disgust for them probably comes from a lot of off-air things that we couldn't hear -- either that or the fact that they just sat there with a puss-on all night. I don't know... —steve |

Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 7:35 PM Someday, I'll probably call in and ask about that on top of a normal question, becuase I'd be interesting in finding out. I mean, there were FEW things you could sort of read into, like Adam made fun of Omar a lot, especially about being vegan, and while it was kind of good natured, there was a bit of tension. But still, not anything which stuck out in my mind. —piesore |

Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 1:34 AM ATDI was a sort of punk rock almost emo but not quite band from El Paso, TX that reached the height of their fame a few years ago. Their biggest single was "One-Armed Scissor." They are now defunct and split into two fairly famous bands, Sparta and The Mars Volta. For what it's worth, I thought they were a pretty good band. —Misdirectomy |

Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 5:08 PM Yeah I really like At the Drive in, the Relationship of Command is my favorite CD, which is why I was curious as to why Carolla hated them. I could understand him not liking the music, but I figured it would have to be something about their personality which grated him, since so many bands come on which he doesn't like so much. But anyways, I think each one of their CDs is better than the last, and it's interesting to see the progression. And live, they were stunning, I've never seen so much energy in my life, not even from the Mars Volta, who are the two spazzier kids from ADTi. The Mars Volta is on the rise, I would be suprised if they didn't become a mainstream sucess in the next few years, while Sparta is sort of maintaining a cult following. Sparta is the rythm section of ATDi, and TMV are the lead. You can kind of tell, Sparta has the poppier hooks, but lacks the ferocious bounce of their former band and TMV are a little bit too experimental to just lay into a solid groove. Generally people consider TMV to be the better of the two bands, but I don't think either captures the greatness of ATDi, at least not yet. —piesore |

Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 5:24 PM Inertiatic (sp?) from The Mars Volta is THE best song I've heard so far this year! Radio stations here are playing another song from them (forgot the title). —j4k3 |

Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 6:20 PM Televators is their newest single, slow and ballady, that's probably what you're talking about. My biggest qualm with their debut, Deloused in the Comatorium isn't the song writing, it's the production. Being a fan of ATDi, I'd followed them from pretty early on, and had heard a bunch of demos and live versions before the final product. And I think most of those sound better than the final, overall, Rick Rubins mix feels uneven and too plasticy. Cedric's voice is very warm and smooth in some of the demos, but are a little more grating, atonal and sometimes "chipmunk-y", and overpower the other instruments. I don't mind sheen, but it feels like I'm listening to a piece of plastic in this case, to the point where I can't enjoy the songs themselves. —piesore |

Monday, March 29, 2004 at 6:36 AM You are absolutely right about the "chipmunk-y" thing. When I first heard Inertiatic, I thought a girl was singing accompanied by a mixer a-la Britney Spears and I was surprised when I saw the MTV for that song! I must say though, they have creativity. And uniqueness too! I mean, who in the world could come up with De-loused in the Comatorium? Inertiatic? Televators? Those are words that I would NEVER come up with! Aren't they touring with Linkin Park or some other band? I hope they come here to my town. I wanna see them live! As for Sparta, I've never heard a single song from them. Gotta check out mtv.com for that. —j4k3 |

Monday, March 29, 2004 at 3:02 PM Yep TMV is open for A Perfect Circle on their tour across the country. From what I've heard, a lot of people think TMV are blowing A Perfect Circle off the stage, so take that as you will. The chipmunk vocals thing is really Rick Rubin's fault, on the demos his voice is not like that, nor is it that way with at the drive in. —piesore |
