Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 10:28 PM Sorry, for the cryptic message. Adam tries to recite the hack rapist routine, and Drew sneaks in the punch line, and Adam launches into a long digrading rant about Drew sucking- It was one of the most uncomfortable rants I've heard on the show. Drew tried to apologize, and Adam persisted to be an asshole. It's the first time I've heard real conflict on the air- I'm starting to believe the POST article posted earlier to this forum. What is the nature of Adam and Drew's relationship? Are they friends, or just begrudged co-workers.

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 11:08 PM It's not that bad. They argued more during the Bow Wow Wow show about Drew's surveys or whatever he has the guest fill out. The best part of that one was the guests trying to calm them down and then Adam and Drew saying how they do it all the time and then they'll go "cross swords" later in the restroom. The best part about when Drew actually fights back in an argument is that the calmer and more mannered he speaks the MORE Adam flips out. Sounds like my dad. —Logo Lou |

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 11:10 PM Although Adam is arguably too hard on Drew, I agree 100% with his frustration -- Drew's notorious when it comes to stuff like this. (The Ed Kranepool story comes immediately to mind.) Drew very passive-aggressively steps on the punchline of Adam's jokes, knowing quite well that it drives him crazy. He then turns and apologizes by saying, "Hey, I know I do that -- I'm sorry.", yet HE STILL KEEPS DOING IT! It's the equivalent of saying, "I know I constantly punch you in the face, but hey -- I'm the kinda guy that punches people in the face -- What're you gonna do?" If you know that you're behaviour drives people crazy, then you should make an effort to stop. —steve |

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 11:55 PM i think it's more that drew is kind of co-dependent, so while caught up in the moment, has an overwhelming urge to "help" the punch line along. —plurryho |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 1:06 AM I was impressed by the "Drew Theory" that Anderson came up with. He equated Drew's step-on-the-punchline behavior with Drew's impulse to "get things done" -- be it a book signing, a liner (or whatever they're called) for an affiliate station, or whatever. Anderson's theory didn't make perfect sense to me at first, but the more I thought about it, those two things in Drew's personality seem to be driven by the same impatient, nervous energy. Drew even does this to guests, too. He'll interrupt them or step on what they're saying just to finish their thought for them. Not to go off on a tangent, but I found it gratifying when Melinda Clarke shared her co-star's advice, "speak up or you'll never get a word in", because this is one of my top ten complaints with the show. Granted, often guests (esp. bands) have nothing to say, but other times a guest will have plenty to say but they are constantly interrupted or cut off by Adam and Drew. —Leif |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 8:59 AM Maybe it's just me, but I've felt like things have been more tense than usual just the last few days. Adam seems a little more rant-prone than normal, and Drew seems to have a lot less patience. I felt like this might be just part of the normal ups and downs, but it certainly looks like a down. Things will probably get back to normal soon enough. I don't know if it's still recent enough to matter, but I still feel like people are a little more on edge because of the FCC crackdown. Just my opinion. —Flatvurm |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 11:34 AM Adam and Drew need not beat themselves up about it. Conflict is inherently fodder for comedy (Curb Your Enthusiasm being a good example) and I'm sure Adam, while legitimately pissed, is conscious of the rhythm of a show. On a side note, it was annoying when Adam used to demand that Drew's mike be shut off because it removed the ammunition (Drew) from Adam's comedic cannon. —jak |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 12:04 PM yea, do you guys remember about a year ago when Drew interupted Adam's joke about his "Jehovah's Witness friend" that vomited all the semen he held in his body at a thanksgiving dinner? Very similar tension. then Tara asked if it was real... —nathanvsgermany |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 1:22 PM The beginning of the veal and venison show is another good example. As steve pointed out, even with Drew's codependence or whatever explanation, it's still an a-hole move to stomp on all of Adam's punchlines over and over, and Adam has the right to get angry. —Proc |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 4:40 PM Re: the Ed Kranepool story. I was the one who called up and asked Adam to repeat: what I found hilarious was the fact that even after Adam and I said that Drew interuppted the story the first time, he did it again and made the same mistake (that Kranpool was there and that he and Adam met) —Marc |

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 8:21 PM Marc -- you were the guy? I remember 'cause a few months had passed since the Ed Kranepool story and Adam had never once brought it up. I was listening to that original show from July thinking, "I wish Adam had finished that story.", and then later that night on the (live) show, you called and asked Adam to finish the story -- it was one of those odd little coincidences. By the way, my favourite comment on Drew's 'impulse' was from Adam: "Drew's a great guy -- he really wants to help. He views conversation like a car that's stalled in the middle of the intersection. He's quick to jump out and help you push your car -- the only problem is his instincts are bad -- you're trying to move your car out of the road, and Drew's pushing you right back into oncoming traffic." —steve |

Friday, March 12, 2004 at 7:02 AM I think it was funny, but scary. We know we dont want mom and pop to argue, but it's perfectly healthy in the relationship adam and drew have. I'm not making any gay referances, but just imagine if you had to be with the same guy for 2 hours a night 5 nights a week so many days of the year? They're fine, no big deal it happens a lot. —Darkfloyd |
