Why not use vBulletin Forums?

I dont mean to diss this version of the forum at all. It is an improvment over the last, but vBulliten Forums are so much nicer. Im sure we could donate enough to buy one and it would be relatively easy to setup.

I'm sure it's good, but it looks like all of the other forums out there, with a lot of categories and sub-categories. I like this forum better. It's easier, and I appreciate the changes that SV made (such as unread messages and new messages being bumped to the top.) Visually, some of the other forums are flashier, but I like substance over style. I have no problem with donating, though, to keep this forum going.

Yeah dude, this is a ton simpler and easier -- we don't need all that clutter.

Not to mention that (i believe) SV made this forum herself, which makes it 10x cooler than any other forum software. This forum is unique!

That's like saying Chips-A-Hoy cookies are better than your moms! She loves you, and she makes a damn fine cookie, to boot!

What I think I'm saying is that all the other forums are dry and crumbly, while our custom-tailored forum here is soft and moist and delicious.

What I REALLY think I'm saying is I'm hungry.

I have a cookie from this forum, so that I'm automatically logged in when I come here!

Chips Ahoy used to be good, but right around the time they started sub-packaging the cookies in white plastic tubes, they started to really suck! They practically taste like crackers now. Bad times.

Back in the good ol' days, before Chips Ahoy started to suck, they seemed to vary in quality depending on where you bought them. The Chip Ahoys I bought in Irvine, CA (near college) were kinda mediocre, but the ones in Fallbrook where my parents lived were awesome. Now they all suck, no matter where you buy them.

What kind of packaged cookies do you guys eat? Any recommendations?

Sorry to push this thread further and further off-topic... So, um, to redeem myself: what's so great about vbulletin? Never used it before. And why do people consistently refer to SV as a "she"? Chicks can't program :-) Either SV is a dude, or she got this forum from somewhere else. I mean, it has to be one or the other.

You know, I picked Chips Ahoy because it was a recognisable brand, but I don't really have anything against them. In fact, I just had a handful of those ones that they make now that are like Oreos; they're smaller cookies with chocolate filling sticking two of them together. They're goo-oo-ood, but my mom's and my girlfriend's are better.

That being said, with cookies AND forums, it's tough to beat homemade. I like this forum a LOT, SV, especially the way stuff bubbles to the top. Nice.

(And how did he nest that pic of Cookie Monster on the right like that?!!)

I also prefer the vBulletin format. Everything's just much easier IMO.

I frequent a few different boards that use different versions of vBulletin. Depending on what options the admins enable, the boards can admitedly look pretty cluttered, or they can be more simplified with not as much "stuff" on the screen. That said, I like the new forums here. They're definitely a step up from the old boards, and I like some of the new features. Good job, SV! :)

Ty, how dare you call me a "girl dumbass"?!?! Oh, wait a minute...

Santa's Mouth, he used "align=right" to put the picture on the right. I should add a checkbox for that on the "post" page, huh?

Well, no. You should only tell me, and then erase that other guy's memory so we'll be the only ones who can do it! ;)

Right now, I'm making the EXACT SAME FACE as Adam in the picture. My mind is officially blown.

That's it. All this power frightens and confuses me. I say we go back to the OLD FORUM! Who's with me?!!

I'm pretty sure all of these things were possible in the old forum too, it was just not really brought up ;)

Funny how people think of a girl when they read "Silent Virgin"

As studly as can be for a virgin there is nothing girly about Silent Virgin.

This forum is definately an improvement over the previous. My only problem is that I can't tell which threads I have and haven't read. They are bumped up to the top on each follow up, but this still doesn't indicate which have been read and haven't. That's the only feature I really want that vBulletin has over this :)

lamermagik - the forum should be showing you which threads you have read and which you haven't, but you do have to be logged in for it to work (check "settings" for an option that keeps you logged in automatically). Also, make sure that dolland.net is able to store a cookie on your computer - if you do those two things then you should start seeing threads with new additions highlighted in a different color and separated from the rest of the posts by a horizontal line.

Hey lamermagik, what browser are you using? Your browser should be turning the links blue when there are unread messages. Like this:

Silent Virgin

Silent Virgin

+

Friday, February 6, 2004 at 9:25 PM

And then when you click on the link, your browser should jump down to the unread messages, which should be hilighted, like this:

When you return to the main page, the link should appear "visited" (green), meaning you've read everything...
