Friday, October 17, 2003 at 4:31 PM Here's what's been happening: I go to ftp://loveline@triggersite.com with no problem using Mozilla Firebird, and I'm able to access the directories with no problem, but I can't download anything from there. I right-click what I'm interested in, and all I get is "Copy Link" options and nothing in the way of "Copy File." Then I try going to the site using Internet Explorer, and it immediately defaults to just ftp://triggersite.com, and refuses to let me go further when clicking OK at the username/password prompt. Then I tried loggin into the site using WS_FTP using just loveline@triggersite.com, and I get nothing. Was I using the wrong syntax in the FTP client? Man, what am I doing wrong here? —Meltdown |

Friday, October 17, 2003 at 5:02 PM I think every FTP client has it's own quirky preference, but I've had the best luck with WS_FTP. The syntax is ftp://username:password@server:port for browsers like Mozilla and IE, but with the more traditional clients, you specify them in their seperate places. Here's Kev's for example: Internet Explorer: ftp://broadband@12.252.12.152:9500 But for WS_FTP it looks like:
 The * in the password field is a space, but it can be anything you'd like. And then there's the failsafe HTTP like: http://loveline.njctech.com or http://www.48x.net/loveline/ Hope it helps :)

p.s. I don't know Mozilla enough to hazard a guess, but the problem with IE is probably that IE tries to open multiple connections with FTP servers, one for LIST and another for any RETR commands. Many FTP servers don't allow more than one connection, so when you see the login popped up again, it's probably the second attempt it's making (and you may have to put a space in the password field for some servers).
