Friday, October 10, 2003 at 12:02 PM Bill Simmons, ESPN.com Sports Guy and JKL writer shared what is like to write for Kimmel. Here is what he wrote: My favorite part of the day is the writer's lunch. We gather at 12:15 p.m. and pitch ideas until 2. Everyone takes a turn. Jimmy types down the stuff he likes. And everyone thinks they did a pretty good job, right up to the part when Adam Carolla goes last and blows everyone away. It's like taking batting practice, putting a few over the fence, then watching Bonds come up and start launching balls into the bay. Very humbling. Then we head back to our offices, type jokes for the next few hours and make fun of each other some more. —Marc |

Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 2:12 AM Recently on Loveline, I remember Adam describing a similar scenario except he placed Jimmy in the position that he is in this article. Adam wasn't saying Jimmy dusted everyone with his contribution, he said after they all threw in what they each thought was good material, Jimmy would show them that it wasn't that great and they would all go back and write some improvements. This is probably respectfully passing some credit to Jimmy. There is truth to both descriptions. Jimmy has the final word on what goes on the air. —Mike (not-the-first) |

Sunday, October 12, 2003 at 11:33 AM One need only listen to the unscripted format of Loveline to recognize the comedic talent both Adam and Jimmy have. I think Adam is a bit better, personally. It might be practice being on Loveline for so long or just his natural ability, but Adam truly is someone I admire greatly when it comes to comedy.

Sunday, October 12, 2003 at 11:59 AM I personally think that the only reason Kimmel is more famous and getting the breaks is because he is better looking and a more attractive commodity. —Marc |

Sunday, October 12, 2003 at 11:43 PM Sportswriters = Boring and make the absolute dullest talkshow guests -they should stick to writing. Kimmel is the leader, he has the charisma, he is the one the execs respond to and believe has a chance otherwise it would be Adam getting the opportunities, Kimmel's humor rolls off his mind naturally, when Adam is relaxed he can rant well and his analogies are great but he stiffens up and speaks like Steven Hawking as soon as he gets nervous or has anything prepared in advance, on the Man Show Adam clearly was the follower in Jimmy's shadow. You might say this was because that was his role and Jimmy was designated leader but it doesn't work that way. You shine if you are a star and it is difficult to hide it. I love Adam at his best and I hope he learns to be cool and laid back all of the time. As for his looks, unless you are gay or one of the few women in power both Adam and Jimmy are roughly the same level on that scale -niether are George Clooney or Brad Pitt. This is comedy. Their looks are not a factor. —Mike (not-the-first) |

Monday, October 13, 2003 at 12:04 AM Okay, I love Adam, but I have to admit, speaking as a woman, Jimmy is more attractive...just barely. I don't think their looks are a factor in their success; look at some of the other late-night talk show hosts---none of them are attractive---well, Conan's kind of cute, and Jon Stewart is hot, but the rest of them are much uglier than Jimmy. I think Jimmy has a very easy, Tom Hanks kind of charm, but Adam is funnier. —joy |

Monday, October 13, 2003 at 4:52 AM Conan is "cute" ? ...copy this thread and forward it to Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Coney needs to see he is admired for his appearance. Adam is funnier under the right conditions. Jimmy is more polished though -he smiles and laughs at all jokes (his and others), he is funny enough himself and he is stable during chaos or lulls. Talk shows do not tolerate quiet moments between humor. It seems like every comment needs to pack a punch that gets everyone reacting whether it is funny or not -too often not. Adam is a masterful storyteller. He isn't like a Dana Carvey or a Robin Williams yuking it up with rapid-fire adlibs. When he is able to be himself he is so funny. —Cracked |

Monday, October 13, 2003 at 1:53 PM Just making general comments. JKL and other shows have had sports casters, writers and athletes as guests. They seem to be stars in the eyes of sports fans but they don't hold their own for those of us who are not. IMO —Mike (not-the-first) |
