Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 7:16 PM Just completed reading Drew's book. With the right treatment this would make a great movie. Because it is so sensitive and internal this would require that extra mile from the three principles (screenplay/adaptation, actors and director.) I have not given it enough thought but the level of actor I am thinking of is that of William Hurt (I know he starred in the movie The Doctor but it was entirely different), Robert Downey Jr. (ironical casting if ever), Tim Robbins, or even Morgan Freeman. These actors can express volumes with a simple facial expression or look in their eyes. It doesn't have to be someone who physically reminds you of Drew -just his deep sensitivity and compassion. —Tom |

Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 7:42 PM But both of those roles were kind of campy. I think with something like this that he's more connected to i think he could do alright. PLus it just wouldn't be right for someone else to be Drew. —Meatwad |

Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 8:00 PM Drew playing himself? It is too distracting. You are supposed to get caught up in the performance and forget about the actor. You are supposed to see the character, not the actor playing the character. Drew could not pull that off. Not even an actor has been successful at playing themselves. There is nothing so cheesy. In such a scenario as a movie based on Drew's life, those that have not heard of him would be in a better position to enjoy the film. The more you know the harder it is for the film to live up to your expectations. You will accept it for what it is if you go into it as just a movie -instead of a movie based on Drew's life. —Cracked |

Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 8:36 PM There are two things going on: One, to make a good movie and, second, to make Cracked into a movie. Both need to be respected and have the appropriate passion for detail to be successful. Drew is not an actor, even though he does act on ocassion. His life is dramatic and he is a great man but this does not mean he can create a character "Dr Drew Pinsky" in a movie. That is a whole different game. I'd rather see a great film adaptation of Cracked with a strong performance by an actor playing a character with Drew's qualities. Let the talented pros shine doing their best work. Drew is a compassionate doctor not an actor. —Mike (not-the-first) |
