Still having trouble connecting to the FTP servers. This is beyond just an issue of knowing how to FTP, but rather, being able to even connect or stay connected. I can't get onto anybody's except triggersite, and I do that by highlighting links to the files in earlier posts and making GetRight download it. I try to connect so I can browse the ftp site, but I can't at all. If i use dos, i can connect but my downloads never finish (the site discs me).

Can someone post a link to last night's show so I can getright it?

It sounds like you have a connection problem. I honestly don't think it's anything on my end but I have opened port 20 & 21 now, so that might help some users.

(remember the password is ace

I have also changed the max users to 5 and the timeout to 3 min.

Please try to remember to use sgs.njctech.com for recent shows (same authentication)

A couple of tips... if you are behind a firewall then you will either need to open port 9500 or use pasv mode when connecting to my server; in a related issue, it is also required that you use the port of 9500 when connecting to my server either in the address bar of IE like this ftp://broadband@12.252.12.152:9500 or ftp://dialup@12.252.12.152:9500... or if you are using a ftp client then remember to change it from the default port of 21 to 9500. Also... there are a very limited amount of users allowed at a time because the server is hosted on a weak upstream, so the reason you aren't getting in could very well be that the server is full. Good luck.

For njctech.com or sgs.njctech.com no port assignment is necessary. I'm using the default of 21. They way ftp works is that it uses 21 for the commands and 20 for the data, at least in non-passive mode (?? I think). Anyways...There is no reason that typing

ftp njctech.com

at a command prompt shouldn't bring up the login prompt, even if the server is full. Once you are in, try to do an ls if you get a file listing, then everything is fine and you should be able to do everything.
