Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 9:16 AM A few months back I tried to download AIM. I got as far as creating a screen name and a password. I thought it would be really simple to finish the download process today. But, when I went to AOL.com and signed in, it said I couldn't use the service because I was not a paying AOL member. Hmmm. Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think I should start all over again and create a different name and password? Have things changed with AOL? Maybe I will go to Yahoo and see if I can download their IM. Thanks.

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 10:16 AM Angel, Check internet explorer. Do you have a running figure icon where your navigation buttons are above? If not, you probably do not have AIM software installed on your computer. Click here to download the latest AIM software. Once you've downloaded, you can create a new screen name. This service is free. —Chris Jagger Sucks |

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 3:33 PM At certain points i use Aim Express or AOl Quick Buddy but those are just beta things for AIM. I use them anyway to be on at least 3 names at a time........no reason as to why i mentioned that —Fletcher |

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 5:17 PM I use Trillian (trillian.cc) for chatting on AIM, since it supports both AIM and ICQ at the same time... it also has support for yahoo and MSN messengers, and IRC, but I don't use those much. If you are having trouble with the AIM software you may want to try it out. —Kevin U. |

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 5:40 PM Hey Kevin...I have MSN Messenger and just downloaded Yahoo IM. I had no problems downloading either of those. I just tried AIM again. I clicked SAVE to the computer because I thought I could do that. It sent me an error message. I thought MSN and Yahoo saved to the computer so that is why I clicked it with AIM. But with MSN and Yahoo, it installs automatically. You don't have to specify. I didn't think I was suppose to push open and run. I don't know. At any rate, my name at MSN is Birdfriend1 and my name at Yahoo is Birdfriend962. I will keep trying. —Angel |

Friday, September 5, 2003 at 4:17 AM Go to oldversion.com ...the newest versions of AIM are bloated and who really needs "AOL Today" or whatever that junk is at the opening of the program. There are direct links on that page, just right click and saveas and you are good to go. They have every version except for the most recent recent recent version. 4.3 is my favorite! Good luck. Click the link below to get there —Greg T |

Friday, September 5, 2003 at 3:23 PM Thanks Greg T. I have been having some computer problems at my end. I don't think it's AOL. I will keep trying. I just find it odd that I had no problem downloading Yahoo IM the other day. I have had MSN messenger for a long time. I am sure I will get AOL to work. I just need to spend time with it. Thanks for the links.
