Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at 11:10 PM Perhaps some of you caught last night's show over Mojo Radio. During the second commercial brake, Mojo played a public service announcement stating, and I suppose claiming responsibility for violating some type of broadcasting code for airing insensitive comments about the Holocaust. ] I think we may have to keep a chopper on standby, incase we need to airlift Dr. Drew out of Toronto if this continues to spiral out of control. —Chris Jagger Sucks |

Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 11:36 AM It's actually worse here in America -- perhaps some of you remember the show from January of this year when Jimmy was on -- he was ranting about the things that they were censoring on his show. Adam went nuts with a rant about the old MTV days -- one of the things he mentioned was that when they were on MTV, they weren't even able to say the name "Hitler". "What the f? We're not pro-hitler! I'm makin' a point about what a goddamn prick he was -- but one of the censors had actually called me aside after the show to reprimand me for using the name on the air! (He then says mockingly in a childish voice) "Well, we're just afraid that the name Hitler or any referrence to the holocaust will conjure up negative images and that'll cause people to stop watching..." —steve |

Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 7:26 PM actually, the FCC is suprisingly light on loveline, i'm suprised that loveline hasn't been kicked off the air. i guess it's because the government actually pushed for loveline to stay on the air somewhere after MTV tried to kill them off and take the trademark and run. again, i'm really glad the fcc aren't being prickish to infinity for it. they are, however VERY hard on KROQ, so no it's no wonder why anderson is running two digital broadcast profanity delay units at a full 14 seconds each (the units run on mono audio, and are independant from the music, so technically adam starts talking before the last commercial even ends, and it ends up sounding like he's talking over the music because they play the music after the IDs.). wow i'm SUCH a geek. —z00ky |

Thursday, September 4, 2003 at 9:02 PM The FCC can't do anything about Loveline, because it is broadcast after the 10pm "safe time" all around the country. Quiet down, zooky. —Jeremy |

Friday, September 5, 2003 at 11:36 PM Let me clarify a little bit. "Safe time" is from 10pm to 6am. It's not really called "safe time", that's just what I call it. I'm not sure of the actual name the FCC uses for it. But during the "safe time" you can broadcast ANYTHING. This goes for both TV and radio. The only reason that indecent material isn't usually broadcast during this time is because corporations voluntarily restrict themselves. There is no law requiring Anderson to dump profanity. He is required to do it by Westwood One, not the FCC. That's why you've heard profanity come through before (especially when Anderson isn't the one running the board) and nobody has gotten in trouble for it. Westwood One could tell the engineer to be more careful, or even fire him if they want to. But nobody would get fined or sued, because it is perfectly legal. —Jeremy |

Sunday, September 7, 2003 at 6:37 PM Matthew, you apparently didn't read what I said very closely. Between 10pm and 6am YOU CAN SAY ANYTHING YOU WANT ON THE RADIO. Period. End of story. The FCC has ZERO restrictions during that time. The restrictions are put in place by the people who run the station. They VOLUNTARILY CENSOR THEMSELVES. And don't tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about, because I work in radio. So STFU. —Jeremy |

Monday, September 8, 2003 at 3:39 PM Jeremy, Did you hear about those dimwits in Detroit who got themselves fired because they decided to use all kinds of profanity? Do you know what/why they did what they did? Was there show after 10 pm or before? Apparently they tightened down on other infinity broadcasters after this episode including Stern and Don & Mike.

Monday, September 8, 2003 at 6:53 PM Yes, I heard all about that, because I live in Detroit. They did it around 5pm. It wasn't exactly "profanity", it was describing different sexual acts. It was extremely stupid of them, and they deserve what they got. Not that it offends me, but because they clearly violated the law. —Jeremy |
