Hi, I think it's really great that you guys set up FTPs for fans... I have used the proper web addresses and tried to get on to the sites (after having checked all the previous messages for info) but could not succeed. Does one need to be on a special FTP program to get on? I would really like to download some old shows and would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you and Good Times.

you don't need a "special" ftp program. here's what to do:

1. go to start->programs->accessories and open your DOS/command prompt (if you don't know what that is or you can't even find it then stop reading this immediately!!! you don't deserve to use a computer)

2. type ftp triggersite.com or ftp njctech.com
3. enter the username and/or password (if required)
4. type dir to see the folders
5. to go to a particular folder, for example the EPISODES folder, type cd "episodes"

don't worry, DOS is case-insensitive (i think) except for the username and password. also, when specifying which folder you're going, make sure you use quotation marks before AND after the folder's name. why? because some folders have a space between their names and DOS will not recognize those spaces unless you use quotation marks. so, if after using the dir command and you see a folder with the name of Jay8989s latest (an actual folder on trig's ftp site), you would type cd "Jay8989s latest"

got it?

6. once inside a folder, again type dir to see the contents of that folder
7. to get a file from a folder, use the command get ""

you can either type the filename yourself or if your lazy like me, highlight the entire filename (including the extension) by right-clicking and pasting it by right-clicking also.

again, don't forget the quotation marks! this is important. now sit back, relax and wait for the download to complete (should be less than 10 minutes if you're on a broadband connection). you would know if you're downloading something if you see the words "Opening data connection" somewhere after using the get command. once finished (you would know because it would say "Transfer ok"), go to your root drive (drive c: for example) and open your file from there!

easy, isn't it?

just remember a few things:

1. to see the contents of a folder, type dir
2. to change directory (or folder), use cd "" (again, the quotation marks) or to go back to the previous folder, cd .. (yes, TWO periods)

3. to get something, type get "" (again, don't forget the quotation marks)

those are the only commands that you need to know. THREE FREAKING COMMANDS!!!

oh, and a few reminders:

1. don't hammer the sites. hammering is when you try to log-in numerous times in a certain amount of time, like logging in to trig's ftp site 457 times in less than 5 minutes. that's not good 'cause you'll get banned

2. don't get a lot of files in one go. share the damn bandwidth!!! you're not the only one on that site trying to download, you know. again, if you do that, you'll get banned

3. for kevin's ftp site, just open a web browser and paste the url (ftp://broadband@12.252.12.152:9500 if you're on a broadband connection for example) on the address bar and browse through the files as if it was your own folder (i.e., double-clicking on a folder to open it, etc.). to get something, just copy the file by right-clicking and selecting copy and paste it somewhere in your hard drive; and lastly,

4. i'll send you the bill later if you find this guide helpful =p

good downloading times...

Bob, I might have an answer for you. Go to control panel --> internet settings --> click on the "advanced folder". There should be a check mark next to "enable folder view for FTP sites" Hopefully then you can access the FTP sites via Internet Explorer.

Also, try turning off your firewall if your using one.

you might also want to try telling your client to connect in passive mode if you're using a router/firewall.
