ltj (with help from ltdaughter) posts a commercial free 32kbit mp3 of the show in alt.binaries.sounds.radio.misc and alt.binaries.great every weekday (almost). ltj includes a link to this site when he posts, so I wouldn't be suprised if he posts here (that's how I found this place).

If you can stand to wait a little longer for the show it's worth it to get the shows from the newsgroups. It's of a higher quality then on the FTP servers, it's comm-free, you lower the load on the ftp servers, and it's usually a much faster download.

There is also a Sterntuary post of the show, but it's not comm-free and it's in realaudio. However it shows up a day earlier than ltj's.

You should be able to find a tutorial for newsgroups somewhere online, and if your ISP sucks and doesn't offer newsgroups or just provides crappy news service you can get a FREE 50MB per day account from news.astraweb.com, there is no strings, you don't even need a credit card. You can also get a free 50MB account from teranews.com for a one-time fee of $3.95, but you need a CC. I recommend newsbin pro for a newsreader, also newsleecher is looking really good, but it's still in beta.

How large are the comm-free shows on average?

They are usually just over 21MB for a complete comm-free show. The 50MB limits mentioned above for the free services include "headers", which is the list of stuff posted in the newsgroup you want to download from, so that adds an extra ~1 MB a day for a relativly small group like alt.binaries.sounds.radio.misc .

ltj has recently started posting his archive on the weekends (he posted like 16 2 weekends ago but only 4-6 last weekend) so now is a pretty good time to checkout the newsgroup if you want to get a few old shows. His archives only start at around mid april 2001 but they are good-quality recordings.

There is no URL. It's not the WWW, it newsgroups.

Read this page for info on newsgroups:

http://www.slyck.com/ng.php

The newsreaders I mentioned above (newsbin pro, newsleecher) are specificly designed to download binaries, so they are binary downloaders more than newsreaders. If your just downloading a few things you can use a newsreader/binary combo like Xnews (which is free).

There is a good tutorial on how to set it up here:
