Though I have to admit, sometimes I do find myself offended . . . but I remind myself it's a joke and I move on. :) Speaking of cultural stuff, I love the idea Drew came up with once, that people of certain national groups tend to abuse their kids more and are just more messed up overall because extremely traumatic mass experiences are woven though their history and ingrained in their culture . . . I'm Mexican-American, and I totally think that's one reason why our people have so many problems. I wish more social scientists would have the balls to explore ideas like that. And even if their not, what's wrong with stereotypes? In my opinion, laughter is a higher virtue than equality. Adam simply pokes fun at the differences between races that makes every person and culture unique and special (and in some cases, not special). A racist believes in a superior race (at least according to definition). From what I can tell Adam doesn't believe there is a superior race (although he does give frequent props to the Asian community.) Adam simply points out the cultural, economical, and social differences that make up a culture. His frankness and extremity is probably what leads many to think of him as a racist. Hell, Adam can’t be a racist; he hires Mexicans to build his houses. Wait, maybe that’s not good example. And Miriam, just because someone has a black friend doesn’t mean their not a racist.

As Mr. MJ already pointed out -- a racist is by definition, a person who feels that one particular race is superior to all others -- if Adam were actually racist, his jokes about other races would imply that the white race was superior -- i.e.: "blacks and mexicans are bad. The white race is good." Adam complains about the white race just as much as he complains about any other race. As far as the "you two Jews are gonna burn in hell" comment, it's not Jew-bashing because Adam's an atheist and doesn't believe in hell -- not to mention the comment was directed at Jeff Ross and Sarah Silverman -- two dear, dear friends. —steve |

In their minds it is okay if they say someone else is a racist, they can point out racist comments or even say someone looks like a racist -if that's even possible. Meanwhile the one who constantly has racism on their mind is this self-appointed finger-pointing barometer. It is like the angry people Adam describes who walk through life being pains-in-the-asses, picking fights, getting fired, having all-around crappy relationships with everyone who wonder why their luck is always down or why no one understands or appreciates them. It's because they're pissed-off pains-in-the-asses. The same is true of people who shut down and sing their one note tune at the first hint of a comment referring to race. Forget about humor. Adam could be the funniest guy in the world when it is any other topic but as soon as it's a jokes referring to race, he's condemned. Adam sees the truth in all areas equally. He will make fun of a coffee stirrer, the scent of gas, the turn signals, cable companies, masturbation, hillbilly inbreeding, junior college, Gray Davis' looking like a pussy, all manner of cultures, race, religion and politics with the same humorous fervor.
